Hello all

please anyone who is an expert or alteast knows what a digital camera looks like read this and give me some feedback.

I bought Canon Powershot G9 from www.youshop247.com.au
it was shipped from japan. Everything seems to work fine
for the most part, but occasianly pictures become broken or corrupt when i try to preview them, it would says "unidentified image" or just error. The same with videos, specialy if am using high ress 1024, some work fine when replaying them, otheres play for little then stop and it says the same, "unidentified image" or error. On the computer it would say avi file is corrupt. Again, its not for all pictures and vidoes it does this, but for about 20 to 30% of the time, sometimes less. Its very annoying. I tried formating many times, and tried 3 different SD cards, Panasonic, Sandisk and Adata. Same shit.

What do you think it is? what can i do? I just hope its not the camera :( It sounds like something a firmware update could possible fix but there isnt one at this stage.

Help!!! Its an awesome camera but becoming a pain in the ass and am starting to hate Canon.

I gave cannon centre a call, they said its either SD memory issue or main board, and to replace mainboard it would cost me $280 hmmm :/ Am not sure if am covered by warranty.

Tell them about the mount of SD cards you tried and advise them that as it came to you brand new with this issue, it should be covered by warranty.

Honestly, if they refuse to replace under warranty, request a manager.

Are you sure you're using genuine SD cards and not online cheapie ones that might be fakes?

Try those other cards out in another camera or someone else's camera shoot till they're full and try copying them to the computer.

I'm thinking memory card myself. Happened to my Mum - she got a 4GB SD card from EBay (for her Canon camera), not realising that no such thing exists. Whaddayaknow, every picture and video past about 500MB came up with the same messages.

Taking a closer look at the card branded "Sandisk" it had none of the genuine manufacturer markings, batch number etc. The sticker on the front was well done though, enough to fool a non-geek. So I got her a genuine Sandisk 2GB card and she's happy as Larry.

I think it comes with a small SD card in the box - I've always called this a "diagnostic" card as that's all it's good for. This is the time to use it. Give it a go and see if the fault occurs again.

Yea true, i heard from people who were having similar problem to me using SD cards bought online, only problem though that i bought mine from a camera shop so i am assuming they are genuine, because the price sure damn looked like they are genuine.

But yea you right about tyring the card that it comes with see if i get the same problem, only here is the funny part, it came with a 32mb cannon SD card, so cant do much testing on that tiny tinie thingy, but ill give a shot.
