Hackintosh HD4870 works
10/7/08 10:24:40 PM

So just a heads up, I'm running a hackintosh on 10.5.2, I put my HD4870 in and surprisingly enough it booted with no issues at all.

The downside it seems is that even if I stipulate what resolution I want at the boot loader it automatically defaults to 1024x768 =( I'm using ATi Atombios for what it's worth, and I'm using the HD3870 kexts.

I'll play around with a few options, and see if I can't get something booted up at a higher res

EDIT: So I played around with the graphics mode on boot

"Graphics Mode"="1680x1050@60" gave me 1480x1050.

Now this may not be the perfect solution for all, but so far as I'm concerned I only want the expose effects, and etc which seem to be working. As far as 3D Performance goes I have windows for that.

Now I just need to get my NIC drivers installed and everything should be fine

So basically your running with no QE/CI i define that as hardly working. vesa mode ftl.

EDIT: Get a hold of 10.6 if you can, there's apparently reference to R770 in the kexts in which case 4800 series users will be in luck.

Theres references to RV770's since 10.5.2 or at least in the developer kit sent to ATi that's really nothing new.

From the point of OS X as a desktop I don't really mind. What am I really going to gain with quartz extreme?

It's not like I have any intention at all of gaming on it

I think Snow Leopard (10.6) should have better support for new cards. It's kinda expected really.
