And I killed my old BFG OC Geforce 6800nu unlocked/vmod the same way you killed the 8800, it got knocked cos watercooling pipes got in the way :(

Tech-Kid apparently a few quads have a bad temp probe its possible yours may be

6800 cpu score who managed that? i think i was closer to 6300 in that last run

thanks morgoth will look forward to what you can do with it

In real temp just make sure the TJMax is set to 95. People have been saying the Q9450 has the 95c TJMax. A different value of TJMax gives you a different temp.

I'm sitting at work here reading this thread while my new Q9550 and GA-X48-DS5 are sitting at home all alone :)

Nice work on the OC Dasa, hopefully I'll hit the 4GHz mark too. That's why I paid the extra for the Q9550, extra .5 multi could make all the difference, I only have to hit 470fsb to get there :p

What's the TJMax in realtemp for? Is that the CPU thermal max or something?
EDIT: Scratch that question, just read the blurb http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

I have the P45 Asus P5Q Deluxe now, its way better than my old gigabyte 965p DQ6, especially by how much it loves clocking my 4Gb of ballistix tracers.

Still waiting on 9450

aww im so happy all these nice new cpus arriving and lining up for a flogging good stuff

mark84 x48 and q9550 was in my sights for a while but ended up going the cheaper option for now and rather than 4870 crossfire il just grab a 4870x2 so that i dont have to worry about 8x pci-e holding it back
mm watercooled 4870x2 will be nice

Was thinking about water cooling my pair of 4870's but I didn't want to out lay another ~$90ea for the blocks. I have all the bits already so I just wanna build it and get going!

dtek fuzion gpu blocks are only $49 each :)
but yer get her up and running i dont think there is any decent software for overclocking them yet anyway so water can wait

Dasa it's nice to see you at 4.0GHz.

My motherboard is gayed up so yeah it BSOD's pretty badly past 425FSB.

Do you guys reckon changing the chipset heatsink will make it overclock any better?

I was thinking something like the Noctua NC-U6 or the TT Extreme Spirit. Both available from MSY.

Otherwise I might as well give my P35 to my little brother who is getting an E7200 and I take his new P45 :D Or if he doesn't accept trade I'll get him a P35 to piss him off.

I hit 500FSB pi runs without tweaking anything today ^.

Hoping for 4GHz stable E6600 8m run.

Also, Anyone know if a MCW60 waterblock would be able to fit the 4870?

as far as i know 4870 is very similar to 3870 pcb so i cant see why it wouldnt

better cooling on the nb may help a bit if its getting hot at high v levels
try a fan over it first to see if it helps

Damn, I think I've hit a FSB wall at around 462MHz. Went to 465MHz and is froze up on me.

Will do some more testing when I get home but I'm just short of the magic 4GHz :(

I'm sure this Q9550 can go higher though. Will post a screeny when I get home and do some more tests.

All of a sudden a P45 with a 4870X2 looks temping :

What's your FSB wall on the P45 Dasa?
Haven't read to much about it but do P45's generally have a higher FSB max?

3.927GHz is pretty awesome. You already have a P45 don't you? The GTL volts are hard things to learn. Though it's probably the fact your running 2 x 4870's in CF which is straining the motherboard.

I will soon join you guys with a P45 myself :D

Oh and you can try bumping MCH volts.

My EP45-DS3R is on it's way too! Hehe, Q9xxx OC'ers :)

So what's new to learn?

Not saying that the Gigabyte EP45's are crap, but this time round, I just wanted a change and therefore opting for the MSI P45-NEO3 FR. Just to see what it can do. Would kill me if it doesn't do 450. I'd send it back to MSY and pick up a DS3.

And I thought you had an older Quad, like a Q6600/Q6700.

~500fsb seems to be about its limit with a quad at 510fsb its rather unstable
that is with bugger all tweaking just upped the chipset v a little is about it

its possible i could squeeze a little more out of it if i could work out the bios what the settings do and whats considered safeish
but so far the changes i have tried havent made much difference

its also possible the fsb limit is a chipset\memory limit as when i up the divider the memory hits a wall around the same speed and becomes unstable very quick and different ram didnt seem to help
there is a lot of memory settings i dont know on this board

how much v are you feeding the cpu to get near 4ghz anyway?

Oh my god. Thank God I stepped into the wonderful world of overclocking XD

Once I sell off my 8800GTX, I will not be needing the extra graphical power anymore, so can cash in towards a Quad core and P45 motherboard. Besides, the less heat and noise from the graphics will be a slight change XD

@Tech-Kid - No I have an X48 board, and yes MCH volts were upped. See below
@nesquick - will do :)

S'pose I'd better get my pertinent info down:
Q9550
GA-X48-DS5
Corsair Dominator TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF (2x 2GB)
2x HD4870
64bit Vista

@dasa - pumped in up to 1.5v but made no difference. I had FSB and MCH up too, can't remember the exact volts but it was a good +0.2 or 0.3 on each.
http://mark.zoomcities.com/images/superpi/
check those two out. 3.8GHz image had 1.35v vcore I think and the 3.x image is the 3.9 odd GHz I got which I had with 1.5v vcore, though I think I could've gotten away with 1.35v again, I just set it as high as I was willing to go with it and went from there.

Ahh I guess the X48 has reached its limit. Get a P45 :D If you have the monies...

Then you can get 500 x 8.5 which is 4.25GHz I think.
