Dear Diary, a creepy giant stared at me today and I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

Did SoR2 have one of the basic bad guys who had a special move that looked like he was trying to sodomise you?

That would be Vendetta, one of my all-time favourites. The queer dudes in the cat outfits who would hump you from behind whilst licking the back of your head.

Good ol Vendetta, I still remember playing that game when it was sitting outside the local Video Ezy store.

Double Dragon II or Battletoads.

I can't pick between the 2.

X-Men Arcade - the 6 player version.

Although I do have a soft spot for the original SoR and Golden Axe.

I know it doesn't stand up but in my younger days i must've put a ton of money through the original Final Fight. Cody sucked balls but Haggar and Guy were awesome and i was so happy when they turned up in one of those weird Street Fighter releases years later.

Don't want to sound like I am detracting from the greatness of other games, and most wouldn't count this one in side scrolling beat 'em up but it made my day - way back when.

Barbarian - decapitation before mortal combat.

Then you cant go past the old double dragon

Barbarian at home , Double dragon at the corner store before and after school.

Barbarian got real old after you realised you could just hold back and hit fire to decapitate.... one hit death with no real way of stopping it (it still was fun doing it to my brothers all the time though :P)

And my vote would have to be, a tie between TMNT ARCADE and SoR

I loved Battletoads and DD3 - though each of them was ludicrously hard to finish (never did manage it).

However I loved and spent lots of time on AvP and Sengoku 3.

OMG, How could I forget AvP. I literally used to spend hours on that at Playtime in my younger years.

That was the main reason why I played it so much, my older cousin knew it and it was the only game he could be beat me on - because he wouldn't tell me - until I figured it out.

I rather liked Dungeons and Dragons: Shadows Over Mystara =)

Castle Crashers looks mighty sweet, but not on PC =( Until I get to play it, I'll continue messing with Little Fighter and Ragnarok Battle Offline.

You know what fucks me off about a lot of these games mentioned...

It's when you activate a special move (a move that clears enemies swamping you) you lose health! What fucked up kind of game mechanic is that?

not that bad really when you consider on SoR a special move was basically pressing "A" and direction..... if you were allowed to do that the whole game through it wouldn't really be that "special" anymore :P

It's to stop powerful moves like that being abused. A perfect example is Max's in SoR2, the forward shoulders charge/roll. You can clear out quite a few of the bosses on insane difficulty using that because they block and you just chip them to death. Even with that you can still abuse it, but if it were a free move you'd go through the game with no resistance.

In theory it isn't a whole lot different to one-on-one fighters where really damaging moves need to be either hard to pull off or have poor priority.
