It just seems to me that once again, the product was rushed out the door before they really had enough time to flesh out the stages.

Rushed? It's been in development for about 10 years!

More like it got too big for it's boots, and they had to prune it right down to ever hope to get it out the door.

I think I'll wait for budget.

I just wish it wasn't crippled with horrendous copy protection, that seems to only affect legitimate purchasers...

Yeah - you are not alone it seems?

Ouch.
While I am 100% anti piracy - this is not the way to do it.

Edit because at the time of posting there are over 1100 1 star reviews vs a total of 86 of 2 or more stars BUT apparently amazon.co.uk have removed all reviews (Just confirmed this myself)

Spore's development began in 2000, around the time that development began for The Sims Online.[7]

We're both wrong.

Still, 8 years is not rushed.

It's funny to me. Spore is probably going to be EA's biggest sellers this year, and over the next 2 or 3 years it will be one of those constant sellers like the Sims games are.

The type of person that posts on Amazon with a complaint about DRM tends to be the type of person that wasn't going to buy the game anyway and probably had it torrented the day it was stuck up there.

I like how there was no big outcry over Mass Effect, and it has identical DRM. I imagine Sims 3 will be the same.

Doesn't matter to me, I hate DRM personally, but I hate having to have a disc in the drive more.

Either way, someone should have steped up and said "We just aren't there yet". Blizzard started starcraft again from scratch completely after 3 years because it wasn't working out the way they'd hoped.

You can either commit to making games that frankly become *the* standard in their perspective genre, or you can roll with it and end up with something like Spore.

It's a shame, because I really wanted to like it more than I do.

im still waiting for my copy of spore which ive just ordered from india of EBAY. spore look's like the most awsome-estly fun game that has come out (exept for GMOD for HL2/TF2/CSS). im not talking about quality or originality but just about fun. i played it at my friends house when it came out and i was all YAYAYAYAYAYAY IMM GOING TO PLAY THIS GAME HOURS PER DAY. and anyone that thinks it's just the sim's + sim city + civilization we'll their right because it is. BUT that doesn't mean its not a brilliant concept and game.

(spore runs really well on 2 7800GTX's suprisingly with no lag)

Blizzard can do that because every game they put out sells like hotcakes. Now that Will Wright is with EA, there was probably some pressure to get the thing out the door. Frankly, for them to achieve what people wanted, the thing would have been stuck in development hell.

Not excusing it, but I can see how it happened.
