Cell stage was the best.

Space stage could've been much more, but for some reason your planets had no defences other than turrets and your enemies had like a billion ships. Fucking piece of shit logic. WHERE IS MY GOD DAMN MEGA FLEET?

Everything inbetween got boring real quick.

The only nice thing I can say about space stage is how god damn huge it is. And the fact that I met the first race I created... LOL.

It just seems to me that once again, the product was rushed out the door before they really had enough time to flesh out the stages.

There are a bunch of flaws in the Space stage which basically render the thing completely dull.

Not being able to raise *some* kind of fleet and with some basic planetary defenses is just plain stupid.

You end up constantly having to track back to your home world to defend it from being raided? What? Could my empire only afford one ship?

I know right. Grox raids consist of like 30 ships yet you have to fight them all by yourself. What kind of bullshit is this? I thought gaming moved away from the LOL YOU ARE A HERO WHO ALONE CAN DEFEAT EVERYONE and more to the Well you are pretty good but you still need companions to help you fight hordes of stronger enemies.

I can smell a Maxis-style expansion pack coming on.

Yep I think from the reviews here I'll give it a miss; considering the later stages are of a style I don't really care for, AND they're being described as not that great to boot, I'll stick with the plenty of other bloody games sucking away my time (I've only just recently started Portal too, a bit behind the times...).

Don't worry thylacine, I barely play new games. I stick to the past, when it was good.

Ah there's some good new ones, and most of the ones I'm playing were new reasonably recently, but these days spare time (and cash!) is in short supply so it has to be reserved for things I know I'll enjoy, and while the Creator was fun, and the first 2 stages sound to be, the later stages sound meh to me, especially with similar feelings being relayed here...

Disappointing, but still fun for a bit... the stages that seem useless are the Tribal and Civilization stages, creature and space seem to be the only worthwhile ones.

So from reading this another game that fails after hype?

not bad but nothing amazingly ground breaking from what I read.

Wait for it to hit the cheap bin?

To be fair, things about Spore are infact ground breaking.

Just most of the ground breaking features have nothing to do with the gameplay. They have to do with the technology behind the game, which I believe holds *massive* potential for other games.

The Spore team were able to "invent" the worlds first proceedural animation system for non-human actors. Before Spore, no one had even bothered to try. It was simply considered too difficult.

The fact that the "Space" stage, is populated with over 5000 star systems, each with planets and different life forms is a brilliant idea.

I just think they needed more time to flesh out the "game" portion of the mix.

remember spore was finished a year ago... they just got word back from the testers that while it was everything they promised it would be... it wasnt fun. so they had to go back and try and make it fun...

tho it seems tribe and civ stages kinda remain the least fun parts.

and they aren't kidding when they say Space stage is a whole new game in itself. oh wow.

This.

I just did a cross galaxy wormhole, then tracked back. Took me half an hour just by clicking planets, minimal stopping.

Insane.

Ok so the tech is awsome.

But is it worth $80 for fun or is it just about the tech?

I dont just want to pay that for a tech demo. I want entertainment :)

Well, in all honesty, if it *wasn't* EA, I imagine a lot of the issues could be fixed post launch via patches.

Fleshing out the gameplay after launch is tricky, but doable.

However, as it *is* EA, no doubt they'll attempt to make you pay for any additional gameplay that should have come included in the box to start with :(

This sounds very much like a "you either love it or hate it" kinda game. I'm not sseing universal agreement either way.

Might give it a miss until either a demo comes out or it hits the bargin bins in 6 months time.

Same same... problem is, I doubt they can DO a demo that covers all the 'stages' of which people are speakin... Would be a game in and of itself...

I realised after posting here earlier, maybe just a decent video off some of the game sites will cover it, but I couldn't even really be bothered with that...
