Discuss: Spore first impressions

First third of the game: Fun creature creation in the vein of Black & White

Second third: Woeful RTS that's thankfully over very quickly. Useless Building + vehicle creation tacked on.

Last Third: Xbox live achievements + a giant shit + Stars! + more shit + more shit + enough infuriating gameplay to make you want to stab the closet person with machete.

It really does come off as several different games tacked together and passed off as innovation. You could of made a ball with an eye that eats broccoli for all the difference it makes later on.

Tribal and Civilisation stages are a load of balls frankly. Just up to Space stage now and it does seem a little bit better.

We'll have to wait and see how it goes.

I played through to the space stage last night, but I think I done it wrong.

I made raptors, perfect killing machines and had limited competition through to space.

Might try it again with a peaceful race.

still a fun game 8/10

Theirs is no ordinary life they have a secret, By day they are normal but by night things change,
They hot up, they go a bit wild, they get lost in dreams and fantasies, Its like being in a film and living the soundtrack, The music does it, The music.

Will get this soon as I am addicted to the creature creator and wont to let my creations run wild.

Hopefully people will soon get that Spore is basically a space sim galaxy sized RTS with a 5 hour character creation. Heh.

Lol mine were omnivores :D

They were basically apes though, and as soon as I got to the tribal stage it was nothing but agression from thereon in, tried being nice to my neighboring tribes but they were cunts back so I killed them all.

Got to civilization and the religious fucks were converting my people, but civilization for me was a mix of military attacks to takeover cities and financial takeovers with the last one being an alliance to end wars

I have really mixed feelings about this game, for one you can create your own being from a small being and you can lead it through its evolution, and exploration stages. But to an extent thats all you can do. you build a creature eat some food maybe customise yourself a house but once you get into the swing of things its just the same stuff repeatedly thrown at you. it also lacks some depth in the stages themselves, sure it has 5 phases but it doesnt explore them to the extent that i would like. i also heard that with minimal customisation the game took 10-15 hours to finish, when i played through it with full customisation it took 8. I did enjoy making my dragon though.

Bored after the first hour.
Gameplay felt shallow.
Definitely glad I played it at a mates and didn't pay for it.

I appreciate what Spore was trying to do, but in the end, I think it's one of those "concepts that looked better on paper than in execution".

Spore draws you in with a simple premise and then for the first couple of stages, it delivers...

... but then it seems to suddenly forget why people were paying the entry fee.

The game stops being about the cute cuddly critter you built in the beginning and suddenly morphs into a game that frankly is going to scare off all the "non-gamers" the game is suppose to be aimed at.

Unlike "the Sims", where the gameplay never really changes as you progress (More stuff, better house, different stuff in the house...) Spore can't seem to make up it's mind what kind of game it wants to be and thus ends up being a pretty poor proxy for a bunch of them.

I suspect my copy will be on Ebay within the month.

The first stage was kinda fun but the creature stage is soooo boring. Basically every time I go to kill some other creatures one of those big ones with 2000hp patrols into me and either kills me or I have to spend literally 10 minutes running around until it finally leaves me alone. The camera and controls are so retarded as well.

Fortunately I'm nearly past this stage, but I'm pretty convinced I can't be bothered playing any further.

There's activations, I think it gets 3 though and when they run out you can call EA to have the counter reset

I love the creature stage, but from there on, it seemed to lose the greatness of the game...Civilization was a pile of shit...tribal stage was meh, and im not impressed with the space stage yet.

Cell stage was the best.

Space stage could've been much more, but for some reason your planets had no defences other than turrets and your enemies had like a billion ships. Fucking piece of shit logic. WHERE IS MY GOD DAMN MEGA FLEET?

Everything inbetween got boring real quick.

The only nice thing I can say about space stage is how god damn huge it is. And the fact that I met the first race I created... LOL.
