The best squad tactics game ever (and its various sequels) are now available on Steam. Buy them.

*gasp*

But can you actually play them? I got Terror from the Deep ages ago for $2, and never been able to play it :(

Guess it's cheap enough that is doesn't *really* matter...

They're dosbox'd etc by Steam, so they should all work perfectly on new machines.

(Which is why I'm buying UFO yet again :P Just having it working properly will be nice)

Yeah, I got Terror a while back and still got a fair bit of colour corruption while playing.

Still, I'll be shilling out for this one!

It is pretty damn cheap after all.

*should* being the key word. I still got graphics corruption, something I got with the Gold editions as well. But then I never really played the later games, just UFO and TftD. So maybe I'll get it anyway...

Edit: aaaaaand purchased....

Oh I fucking LOVED the first two XCOMs! In fact, I even bought a Dell PDA two years ago, partly to play the free mobile port. Then I never used that damn PDA again come to think of it. Where is that thing? Fuck.

I too have terror from the deep on steam, and the only reason I couldn't play it is because of the lack of knowing what to do.

And because I couldn't be stuffed finding out.

Holy Crap. It comes with Enforcer too!

That's about as far removed from the original X-com games as you can get!

Played through the original XCom last year after a couple of abortive attempts at TFTD. Currently playing through UFO: Aftershock (more a spiritual successor than official, but still great!).

Would be cool to have the originals, play through them again. The pure destructibility of the environment was one of the best things about these games. Enforcer looks awesome!

Definite purchase.

Nothing can beat XCOM/TFTD :( None of the "sequels" came close!

Yeah, I bought TFTD from Steam when it first came out. It plays... but it crashes frequently.

I'll stick with my DOSBox versions (I still have the box and manual to UFO: Enemy Unknown).

*EDIT* And for those who aren't aware:

http://ufoai.ninex.info/

Free sort-of remake of Enemy Unknown/UFO Defense.

It's pretty good, but not as good as the original.

Sadly this is the story for all UFO sequels :/ The original was lightning in a bottle. The only game to come close is Jagged Alliance 2.

Still play the shit out of both.

$15 for all of them is pretty decent.

Are they including the bug-fix patches that were released, or just the original early ones?

TFTD is not as good as UFO.

It's definitely worth perservering. It truly is one of the best games ever made.

Here's a good starting point:

TFTD is essentially a horribly coloured version of UFO. There isn't much different bar the horrible, horrible colour scheme.

Different (and some badly unbalanced) aliens
New (broken) tech tree
Increased (absurdly in the higher levels) difficulty
Weapons that are only useful underwater

TFTD is harder, and not in fun ways.
