A revolution for the MMORPG genre.

I think there are too many of them on the market. Companies tend to want to make them because maybe they make more money because first people can't pirate it and then there is the monthly fee.

There is always a gloat of the genre that is popular at the time. It's no different to the multitude of Halo, Streetfighter or Red Alert clones that flooded the market at one time or another.

I don't see piracy as a valid excuse tbh, if they made a decent game (and more importantly people aren't cheap skate cunts) there's no reason to pirate a game. Technically when you buy an MMORPG you aren't buying a game, you're buying an account to use where ever and when ever you want.

Paying a monthly fee is an even weaker argument. People rent servers for CS or pay for an Xbox live subscription all the time. Bandwidth isn't free nor are the computers running the servers or it's maintenance costs. Someone has to pay for them and it's going to be the users, the difference is with an MMORPG you tend to get constant new content rather then having to wait twelve months for an Expansion pack and burning through all it's content in a week.

Aw come on subby, hes bringing it to our attention, who cares if hes advertising it, alot of people obviously didnt know about this.

i have a very strong, almost instinctive dislike of this kind of thing. it makes me twitch when someones first post is a wonderfully laid out essay on the virtues of product X. i cant help but get the feeling that i will never see them post again, and i dont like being taken for granted like that. im a person, not a revenue machine.

whether its a good game or not is totally immaterial.

i would like to say in the nicest possible way that this looks remarkably like you are advertising the game and there is a note in the FAQ strongly discouraging that.

this said, i cant seem to find anything saying its going to be subscription based, therefore i cant tell whether this is actually an FAQ violation or not.

however, i would like to flag my stern disapproval that your first post in our fine community is not a friendly joining-in post, but the pimping of a game you may or may not be affiliated with. i find such an act rather offensive, as it would indicate you think of us as potential consumers rather then potential friends.

Thats only fair, I do have a bit of an agenda. I'm not personally involved with Darkfall development, I'm just a fan trying to arouse a bit of interest in the game from the Oceanic community. First reason for this is that I think this kind of game is the future of MMORPGs and the more interest we generate the sooner large developers see the market for it. Secondly, I am an Australian (originally NZer) myself so I'm trying to get other Aussies interested for the sake of a proper Oceanic release.

Looks okay.
Certainly not convinced that full out PvP is a great idea, I rather like the EVE style where you've got a bit of a choice.

Well, EVE just works remarkably well. It's by far the most mature MMORPG I've played to date, and apart from some annoying issues with respect to the UI and how things are processed ingame, it's very polished.

I guess my point was, uncontentual PvP is a good thing, however giving others a fighting chance and a (edit: small) choice is also a good thing.

It looks like dogs balls. In that gameplay video, at around 1:00-1:10, I felt like I was watching an EQ1 vid.

This game reeks of failure.

all eve players know about the three scams.

which were you referring to, the guiding hand social club incident, the apocalypse scam or the "investement" job?

thats the GSHC scam. there were two others. one where very early in the game a guy arranged to collaborate with people to buy a very expensive blueprint for a battleship, pretended he already had half the money and did some serious altwork on the eve forums, eventually making off with 600 million isk.

the second is a chap who pretended to start an investment bank, did everything he promised for a few months, then ran off with everyones cash. hes the richest person in the game.

i'm on the bus home at the moment, so no video for me. But from the description this sounds like it has promise.

My biggest beef with WoW is that it's not similar enough to Street Fighter - i used to play UT with a half-second ping - L2P nubs. And the whole hovering-names thing really gives me the shits.

Currently I'm really enjoying Stranded 2 - gameplay is so much more important than graphics. free beta = worth a try, if I can fit it in my cap.

Scams happen everyday. It's part of the attraction that you're allowed to, or might be part of one.

Scams based on exploits, however, are harshly punished.

Seems people should prefer to play the game for the fun of scamming rather than building a corporation to be the victim.
