http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GIANA-SISTERS-Original-AMIGA-CD-CD32-CDTV-4000-1200_W0QQitemZ310077011064Q

A little insight - this seller had the same item a few weeks ago and I reported it.

Naturally, he's up to it again as eBay probably did nothing.

Great Giana Sisters was never released on CD for the Amiga, and was actually pulled from the shelves due to legal threats from Ninendo since it was almost identical to Super Mario Brothers.

Fair enough if people have a real copy of the actual game, but this is obvious fakery and profiteering from someone elses hard work.

Look at the pictures - the label and CD are obvious low-quality inkjet prints (which in itself would have been impossible in 1985).

Cheers guys.

At least eBay might pull a finger out if they get multiple hits.

Copying games for your mates is one thing, but copying them and faking commercial labels then selling them is an entirely different one.

Sure, it's for a dead system (although the Amiga is alive in another incarnation), but this sort of thing shouldn't be allowed to go on.

Yeah, I reported it as well. I showed this to a few of my mates and they just cracked up at how low some people are willing to go...

I also asked the seller a question, ie - told him what's what within the also rediculous character limit there.

Idiot also has his bank details in the auction for all to see... now to just check that junk eMail for inheritance letters from Prince Ubutzu from Nigeria...

Just got it in the email:

Hi rybags_au, just because a CD is a "low budget" (like this one/rare to find!) release (or re-lease) IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT IS PIRATED!LICENSE INFORMATION:
Licenced to Alive MediaSoft from the Author in 1999Compilation Copyright 2000 Alive MediaSoft. PLS DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU START ACCUSING SELLERS! -->"The supplied versions of Great Giana Sisters and Hard'n'Heavy are the ONLY versions available for inclusion on this CD. CrazySue 1 & 2 have been included free of charge. This CD has been tested on a A1200 with CD-ROM.All games once dumped to floppy disk should work on all Amiga's."

Whether this game was re-released commercially is unclear to me - Nintendo would have persued it just as vigourously in 1992, 1999 or even today since Mario games are their flagship product offerings.

I do know that it has been released again on mobile phone.

It's kinda hard to find information, since the game does the rounds on emulation sites and in torrents all over the place.

Seems there has been a release from Alive MediaSoft of a Giana CD, so maybe this is legit. Maybe Nintendo aren't very concerned since the Amiga CD32 is very much an abandoned system with next to no commercial value (in supporting).

Have you tried contacting Nintendo about it?

At the least, if they don't like it, they'd bring considerably more pressure to bear than we can.

They took their action around 1987 against the original release.

I guess by 1992, the NES was essentially dead and they wouldn't have been to bothered if this game was re-released on CD.

I'm thinking today, they'd probably care less again.

Seems someone's even ported the game to the Nintendo DS, looks like it's just running under a C-64 emulator:

Should I create a fake ebay account and tell him that he has been reported to the police for piracy. Who knows maybe the dodgey bastard is printing the discs off elsewhere as well.

Nah. Don't worry about it.

Sorry for bothering people, but it may well be a legit sale. The things that bothered me were the obvious inkjet labels and the fact that the same seller had the same thing listed a few weeks ago.

It could be that the 1999 or whatever re-release was done that way.

In any case, let the eBay employees earn their wage - with 4 reports on one item they should at least query the seller as to the authenticity of the product.

Regardless of whether it's legit or not, they could at least put some effort in to making CDs. Half the title is cut off on the CD! That's horrible standards!

Unfortunately, there is no way to prove it either.

That game isn't worth 50c unless it's to a collector.

Fricking great game that! , no idea if this is legit or not, could well be. I have several old amiga games (on disk/ not cd mind you) with dodgy labels. Just were low production runs. that said though, if its for Amigacd32, then i doubt it came in that cover/jacket. No idea if the cd is dodge though.
