Hi all,

Saw someone in here mention Play-Asia for getting games. I want to buy Call of Duty 4 from them but wanted to ask if anyone else has bought games like this that require online keys to play and have they worked fine?

I dont want to buy the game to find out the key cannot be used outside of hong kong.

Why would the "key" be region locked?

Because the object of DRM is to frustrate legitimate users.

Duh :P

I know Steam based games won't work with keys from different countries or the like. Or something like that.

Actually on play-asia it says that the game is region free....

But then there's a lettering in bold under features which discloses "key may not work outside of hong kong". It says this under both the US and ASIA versions of the game...

So no one here has bought from play-asia a game that requires a key?

I am also interested in obtaining games from Play Asia and I was wonderign what their delivery methods were like. For example their el cheapo delivery with boxes (non courier) how are they with if you miss the delivery? Do they let you know to pick it up at the distribution centre? Is that with Australia Post?

I ask because I work long hours and go away for work alot and I know couriers can resechedule but don't know the details of the cheap mailing options.

The stuff I've ordered, they've either placed the game in brown packaging in the letter box, left it at my door, or I've had to pick it up at the distribution centre.

Do they use a particular company or the local Australia Post distribution centre? They would have an awful time trying to get the package into my mailbox.

You can choose between several mailing options, the one order I made from them come in a brown postal bag via Australia Post and had been half shoved into my mail box damaging the box a little :(, weither or not it goes to a local distribution centre or just crammed in seems to depend on the postie you get.

It varies from game to game. Steam does disallowed games bought from other regions since you basically need online activation to play everything.

Most games especially older ones only need the cd-key to to unlock installation process (and for your online account - which may be region blocked by IP though I have not heard instances of this outside of Steam). After that protection is mostly enforced by physical media checking each time you run the game. Schemes like these are essentially region free.

Edit, My mail man just left the brown box with a 60 dollar game inside sitting outside my door.

I've spent a fortune with Play-Asia. They are top-notch and completely legit.

Highly recommended.

My only real gripe with them is the shipping times. Sometimes waiting that extra week when everyone else is playing that new blockbuster game is just torturous.

Courier was on my doorstep within 48 hours of me placing my order.

If you mean when a game first comes out then yeah - that's the trade off. Wait a few extra days after initial release for Play-Asia to get stock, wait two days for delivery, but get it at half price.

I got CoD4 earlier in the year from them, and believe it or not it was at Australian boxed version! Cost me less than $40AUD looking at the order. Take that '$89 at retail', you too '$89 on Steam'!

Nothing I've purchased from P-A hasnt worked, and everything bought over $50USD gets a voucher for $5USD off, which covers the postage for the next game ($3-$4USD). For PS3 I now always get the 'Asian' version as its cheaper and is in English anyway. For PC, all keys have been fine. The only area where it potentially could bite you on the bum, is something like the Organge Box from Valve. I've read that Steam keys are region specific, though I cant confirm that.

As for postage etc: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-00-3-helpshippingoptions-49-en.html

Edit: Oh and PO Box FTW if not using a courier.
