About Game
RF Online is an epic mix of traditional fantasy MMOG mixed with unique futuristic sci-fi action to bring an entirely new and original take on the existing MMORPG genre. Set in a deep space galaxy known as Novus, take your pick from three all-powerful warring factions leading your character into the final battle for total control over the entire Novus galaxy. I've been following the CM development for about two months now. Played in the Philippines beta. It's highly doubtful many people here will like it due to the kind of game it is, not really made to win over the WoW crowd or anything; the PvE grind is harsh and there's very little PvE content (nothing in the way of real raid mobs or anything.)
The game is purely RvRvR, all about the racial PvP. It's been out in Korea for a year, Japan for about 6 months, Philippines beta just recently ended, Chinese beta started, and the English (Codemasters) beta is starting soon. However CM aren't having an open beta.
Also note that it's not getting an official release in Australia. We'll be able to order from the US or UK and play on their servers, but get no official support or anything. AU isn't a licenced region. CCR is the Korean company developing the game. Sega holds the Japanese licence, LevelUp games holds the Philippines and Codemasters has the 'English' (EU and US) licence, but AU isn't counted in that. Since it's doubtful anyone will licence it for AU, we just sorta sneak under the radar for the US release.
All that said, some people might like it. It crosses somewhere between L2 and DaoC I think. Only with newer better graphics. The game system is unique as far as I've seen in any MMO, too. Though not necessarily in a good way. :\ -----

Oh well, I guess the waiting for a decent SciFi MMO continues. Yes I know about Eve but what if I dont want to pilot a bloody great big starship!
What if I want a bloody big gone like the Jackhammer from Planetside!
Or be able to pilot A Hover Jet called a Reaver like in Planetside. Ok so maybe I jsut want somone to make a better version of Planetside.

There's no ships to pilot or tanks to drive or anything at the moment, though may be added in future expansions (Free 'Giga' updates, like L2's Chronicles.)
If you want huge racial PvP wars, then RFO will please. It's all about mass group PvP, not just like WoW's Battlegrounds, either. The wars involve hundreds of people. You're a soldier in your races' army. 1v1 PvP is near non-existant, though. Very pointless and difficult without large level disparities.
Though the harsh PvE grind will likely put off most people who'd be interested in the mass wars. The game's been out in Korea for a year and somebody only just hit level 50 before christmas. Over 11 months from launch to hitting max level. Heh. Hardly like WoW's easy levelling. Though CM has the ability to rebalance the game for the western market, there's no confirmation on whether they'll be making levelling easier. It's assumed but not confirmed.
I'll be playing it, but I don't expect to see too many, if any people around here join in, when WoW was what introduced the majority to MMOs. Absolutely nothing in this game is like WoW unless you liked doing Alterac Valley larger scale BGs. -----

Yes Asai I was a 3rd on on the Johari server of Planetside to reach CR5 Incoming orbital Blast :D
I was used to commanding squads in PS and being in huge battles and skirmishes as part of th New Conglomerate war machine.
I loved that game so much nothing like a Hot Drop over a Heavily defended base and taking it from right under there noses. -----

I've tasted ez mode grinding with quests in WoW, i can't go back to the L2 bore fest anymore. -----

I was going to do a full writeup of this game when the CM beta opened (Phase 1 this week, I think) and probably still will. There's a lot to say about the game. Though as I already said, I doubt many people here will be interested since the PvE grind is very harsh (well, 1-30 is easy, 31-50 takes forever) and WoW spoiled most people. >.< -----

Did you ever play Planetside Asai?
I dont know how I would rate the Grind in that as it is Entirely PVP or Faction Vs Faction and it was really dependant on which battles you picked. But I remember pulling up once I got to lie 35 and CR5 as I had pretty much everything.
Still I look forward to your write up Im still kinda interested. -----

Nope. Skipped Planetside. Thing that differs with RFO is you don't get XP for killing people in PvP (you do get skillups and 'ranking' though) so you still need to do the PvE grind. :\ -----
