Dell Studio Hybrid Desktop

What do you guys think of this:

http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/desktop-studio-hybrid?c=au&cs=au

I saw it being advertised up there ^^

It's probably pretty underpowered (and overpriced) for most tasks, but would probably look fine in the living room as a media centre. (Or as a media extender)

I've been looking at small off-the-shelf systems, which would be almost impossible to build yourself.

It's got a core 2 duo processor, so it shouldn't be too slow. You're really just paying for that small size.

It has an external power supply, which reduces the size and weight.

(EDIT: oh, and I love the green one...)

Looks fine for a HTPC. except for the storage capacity. Needs at least 4 times as much as what it currently is equipped with.

yeah, it can only take a single 2.5" drive, you can upgrade to the 320GB HDD.

I figure it's probably ok for streaming from a server.

It also needs a TV Tuner card...

I'd probably opt for a Shuttle.

+1 on the overpriced...

Looks sexy, but it you use it mounted upright on it's edge I'd be somewhat nervous about having it fall over from a slight bump...

Looks good, but i think it won't do good if used for heavy task. But if you will make some modification it will work fine.

on that link, the most expensive one says it has 3 gig ram, a 1 and a 2 gig stick. and its listed as ddr2, but does the miss matching mean it is impossible to actualy get the dual chanel bonus?

personally, I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole
- once you take into account the external PSU, plus the fact that you're stuck with a slow lappy HDD, it starts looking pretty shitfull.
get something that isn't just a gimmick, something you can upgrade - like a shuttle, for instance.

....it's called a 'snuke'.
