so, having 2 computers is really cool, but having 2 sets of keyboards and mice on my deck isnt, and confusses me a fair bit.

so, i need advice on a decent KVM switch that can handle dvi input, USB keyboards, mic, headphones, and a max res of at least 1920 x 1200. i did see a belkin flip at work for $99, but it only does dvi through an adaptor, so all im really getting is a d-sub connection. it didnt have a mic either, but the mic isnt an ssue really, the res, and usb inputs for KB and Mouse are.

any and all help appreciated.

You sure the flip only does DVI through an adaptor. Online specs seem to indicate it does dual-link DVI-D, so definitely not giving you analogue switching - infact the specs specifically exclude analogue switching.

Other than that, I'm unaware of any USB/DVI KVMA switches.

must have read it wrong then. *redface*

i have seen them on altech, but they dont have a high enough res for my 24" moitor.

i might just buy that belkin flip and see how i go with it.

EDIT: yeah, there are 2 versions, one thats DVI-D with max res of 2560 x 1600, and another thats DVI-I with a max res of 2056 x 1438 or something silly. neither have a mic switcher, but thats not a problem.

so anyone now anything more about these, or should i just go and buy it from work and be done with??

I have a couple of ATEN ones and they've done the job. You might want to check out their website.

Aten KVMs are good, currently using this one for my setup

If you only need two ports then maybe this'll do you
http://www.aten.com/products/productItem.php?pcid=2005010513171002&psid=20070130114411002&

Don't know that they do dual-link DVI connections though for above 1920x1200 resolutions.

its ok, i ended up getting the belkin one from work for $94. its vga only, so i have to use a pair of dvi-vga dongles (i gotta get another one, only had one sapir), but i cant notice the differance between dvi and vga, so im not concerned.

thanks anyway mark :)

good thing about the belkin, all you can see of it is the seperate button for switching from on pc to the other. the rest is creatively hidden away (read: double sided-taped to the underside of my desk)

A bit late but I use one of these

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=278&products_id=5576

Works very well and I have no problems with devices attached to usb hubs, that are also switched between the computers as well.
