I've been with MNF for over a year now, though I think my ATA is on it's way out, I often have to reset it before it connects.

I've probably only spent $60 on it in the past 12 months.

I never use international, don't know anyone overseas.

the local and mobile call quality is good enough,

bearing in mind that my cable connection only has 256k up...

have you had a look on Whirlpool? they have a whole section for MNF

I use Engin
all national calls free
all international 3 cents a minute

monthly cost $15 on a 12month contract

originally got VOIP box and wireless router thru Engin reseller on ebay for $20

Had some serious issues with setting up account and charges which reseller sorted (Engins fault) and they ended up getting me the top VOIP box and wireless router and refunded all my monies...
So basically got everything free.

I'm using the iiTalk that's bundled with my naked DSL.

International call rates aren't anything spectacular (5c/min to UK and USA), but you get unlimited free untimed national calls. This presents infinitely better value to me, since I make zero international calls anyway.

The quality is fantastic, no matter which endpoint I use (Softphone+headset on PC, my Cisco IP phone, or my 5.8GHz cordless phone via my ATA box).

nice

stil intersted in mynetphone though.

as iitalk is via iinet who is your ISP too.

Just like if i got NodePhone it'd be flawless as its my ISP, so no external network before it leaves for the other phone.

its still good to hear that so many work well though :D

I use MyNetPhone most night to call my GF, have done some international calls and the quality is decent enought. there is a bit of lag but i think that has a lot to do with the net speed in south africa.

I was on a 8000/384 connection so local calls were no problems.

i picked up a gigaset C470 ip ( http://gigaset.siemens.com/shc/0,1935,hq_en_0_145510_rArNrNrNrN,00.html) for use and it's great with the dual line (6 x voip and landline) features. only cost $90 (thanks JB-HIFI)

who is your ISP scythe?

A lot of them have their own service, and it tends to get prioritised on their own network.

We used to use it on 256/64. It was just passable. If anyone jumped on MSN or hit a webpage, it'd break up, and sometimes disconnect. Pissed me off real bad when Mum talked for hours on end and I couldn't even use an IM.

Up until recently, for the most part Africa relied on satellite for internet. I don't imagine their phone system would have been much better (if the end point for the IP bit of the call wasn't in Africa itself, which is entirely possible)

My girlfriend's spending the year in China studying and I've been using MNF the whole time... it's pretty amazing. The best thing for me has been the fact they have an indial service, kinda works like a calling card without needing PINs and all that, where you can register a phone number that's authorised to call out using your account's credit.

This means that I can call her from anywhere in Australia from my mobile for an absolute pittance (cost of a regular mobile call which for me is included in cap, not a big deal, plus 2c/min or whatever it is on MNF). I've recharged maybe $50AUD this year. Very full of win.

I started with Nodephone when I was with Internode, then went to MNF when I switched providers. I virtually never have issues with it, although the missus has major problems when she calls one particular number, personally I blame Optus (the provider on the other end) for that one :P Who knows, it works fine for everything else.

I'm on the Whirlpool saver plan so I get a DID number for $0 month and the call rates, while not the cheapest are fine for me:

* $0 per month
* FREE calls to other MyNetFone users
* 10c untimed local/national calls, anywhere, anytime
* 15c per minute mobile calls
* International calls from 1.9c per minute
* MyText SMS 10c per message
* Includes 1 PSTN/DID number

It's funny when a quick call to the UK or the States (1 or to minutes) is cheaper than a local call :P Still in the last 12 months I have spent a grand total of $39.19 :D

I also have the same Engin plan with my optus cable (don't have a phone line at all). And I have to say it is the best move I ever made, saved me a lot of money not only on line rental but on calls as well.

Never had any setup issues, I am using a linksys voice box router which was so easy to setup.

You will never go back Master_Scythe.

Why did you buy a VoIP router? Why not just an ATA box or IP phone?

There's nothing special about them, and judging from your other threads, the last thing you need on your network is more routers...

thusly i needed a new modem.

and may as well get an all in one device in the process.

cost me $50 in trademart.

2 port voip, wireless, 4 port LAN, adsl2+ modem.

cant go wrong!

EDIT: also, signed up. :D
