Logitech Harmony One remote?

I've got a b'day coming up next week and I've decided it's a good opportunity to consolidate my remote controls.

I've got a TV, AV Receiver, STB, Foxtel, DVD, HTPC, at the minimum to control. The HTPC , AV , and DVD all point into the TV and require switching depedning on what I'm watching. All sounds goes through the AV receiver, to get my 5.1. (I always wouldn't mind controlling my aircon from the same remote either, just for the novelty :p)

Anyone had experience with this remote, or the older Harmony 880? What's it like at multiple inputs, in the readl world? How easy is it to set up? Am I better off getting the cheaper 785 model? Is it durable? Enough to stand toddlers?

(umart has 'em for about $120 less than the rrp)

I've got an earlier Harmony 525, and it works a treat.

Set-up's relatively easy, just install the software to your PC, and for the most part you can just download the set-ups of your existing device remotes.

If it can't find them, then manually setting up the frequencies from your old remotes is again, pretty painless.

I'm currently running a Samsung LCD, Logitech speakers, Xbox 360, Dick Smith Digital Set-top box and a Tevion DVD player.

A mix of known and unknown brands...all working fine.

Note that they don't work with either Wii's or PS3 due to their bluetooth connectivity, not IR.

I too have the harmony 525 and its great. easy to use and even the missus can change my home theater system around now with the simple press of one button.

If that new one is an improvement to the 525 then it will be awesome also. Although for the money i would just get the 525 as it does everything i need and more.

I also have a 525, but actually find it a bit of a pain to navigate around. Scrolling through the LCD menu annoys me a bit, however it is better than 3 different remotes I suppose. If I could afford it I would probably go for the Logitech® Harmony® 1000i Advanced Universal Remote

Ignore the Logitech prices they are bullshit over the top.

I'd like to get a Harmony remote....

I'd also like to take this opportunity to mention that Sony are a bunch of cunts for making the PS3 use a bluetooth remote...

I have a 785 and couldn't agree more with the positive comments above, BUT I should warn anyone with a Harmony Remote that Logitech has had some problems with software/firmware updates the last couple of weeks and a lot of new users have temporarily bricked their remotes as a result, they still are the best universal remote though, IMO.

Might be late but I do remember our local EB were selling the 1000i remote for $300, might want to take a look there first.

I have bot The Harmony 1000i remote and the old Harmony 520.
It took me a good day to set up the 520 originally, and I still have not got the 1000i set up exactly right.

One thing is that I have never come across a item that it will not control (in IR mode)

But you do need a lot of patience to set them up.

Its not going too shabby. It was simple to setup the Receiver, TV, STB, and DVD as they were in the database. My wife is happy because watching tv is again a simple thing. I'm happy because I have a shiney gadget, as we all love those :)

I haven't yet tried to get it working with Media Center. I imagine that'll be a much larger battle.

But so far so good. It's on charge for the night, so I'll have a proper go at it tomorrow.

The media center shouldn't be too much of a problem. I bought the windows remote with USB IR receiver and hooking that into the logitech (880 and whatever the current one we have now) was a piece of piss.

The only problem I have had with them is a bit of a delay which makes the Apple TV retarded to use with it and the wonderful security they employ.

I remember forgetting my account details so I used the "plug in your remote and we will retrieve your details for you" option. This logged me into someone else's account. I was tempted to change something but thought better of it.

Right now I haven't figured out how to actually turn media center on with the remote lol. still haven't got much else hooked up bar the tv stb and dvd through the reciever.
