ALDI used to sell PC's, like once a year or something, and they were really decent if my memory servers me correctly. Does anyone know what time of year the usually do it? ----- 2400+ T/bred B,ABIT NF7-S Rev 2.0 ,512pc 2700 kingston valueram, 128MB Ti4200 lite-on burner and dvd,1x60gWD 2mb cache 1x120gWDJB 8mb cache, hercules muse 5.1 DVD and sik speakerz ----- Registered Linux User #337293

In their most recent catalouge they have a computer that's being advertised on the back page. They tend to release them every 6 or 7 months from what I can gather. ----- Check it. http://z8.invisionfree.com/Shadowed_Realm/index.php?act=idx

I saw one in their catalog not long ago. Probably a case of checking the junk mail regularly. ----- "Toothy" Tonite Robson says 'Merry Christmas, fuckers'

the last aldi PC I seen (well, read about...) sounded alright, pretty good specs I was surprised. I'd still much rather build my own....it'd be alright for a complete n00b, or perhaps a relative that you didn't want to give tech support to? ----- a jihad on anchovies

But as long as those are ok, then they've had some pretty cheap deals from past memory. ----- "Atomic is more than a magazine. It's an institution. But mostly a magazine. And a website."

Yeah i'm not 2 interested, i'm just due for an upgrade, and i remember a few years back a thread bitching about how they were really good value. I'll be building my own, just wondered if they were any good / still being sold. FWIW, the brand they use is Tevion. I bought one of their 15" LCD screens about 4 years ago for $499 (when comparable name-brand screens were about $699-$899) and been very pleased with the quality and lifespan...in fact, I'm still using it. They have a local 1-800 number for tech support, which is pretty good, but I've never had to ring it so I can't say how useful it is. I almost bought one of their laptops once, except they'd sold out. The advice about getting there early on a Thrusday is good because that's when the new catalogue stuff gets put out. Tevion is a specialised section of Medion dedicated to TV's and visual stuff. both the same factory. ALDI stuff rocks. i buy ALL my electronic stuff from there. got a universal remote from there for $9 that rivals the Logi Harmony! i was amazed. ----- A64 3500+, ASUS A8N-SLI-Deluxe, Leadtek 6600GT, 1gb, 200GB WD SATA, 36GB SATA RAPTOR, 109 DVD, LG DVD-rom. my sis bought one when the 9800XT's were all the rage. just the box. very, very cheap i remember, but good quality. All the crap inside is just rebaged gear. She never had a problem with hers (in fact she still uses it today). Ive poked around in it when she first got it and was suprised at the quality of parts that were in there. The outer Medion case is poxy, but no more so or less so than those crappy dell/hp variants. at any rate, id have no hassles recommending them for peeps you dont want the hassle for doing support. :) ----- DFi Lanparty Ultra D-Hardmod to SLi AMD X2 4400+ Holy Toledo Batman AMD Heatpipe stock HSF TeamXtreem Cronus 3-2-2-8 DDR500 2xAsus 7900GTX (GA SLi bridge) Enermax Liberty 620W SLi Leadtek TV2000XP Custom modded SGI Octane case

What about the parts used? I noticed on a medion forum in the UK (can't remember the name sorry!) that the motherboard & other cards etc were cut-down versions. Many users were pretty scathing actually. I always shop at aldi, and have purchased many gadget-items (camera, dvd dhh recorder etc) but am wary of their PC if it is using cut-down or limited equipment. Here in Melbourne they had one for sale about 2 weeks before Christmas, but when I went inside the store had already sold their one (or however many they have). I remember a few years back, my dad bought one (around the 9800XT times)but had to drive all the way to the other side of the city to get to the Aldi store that had one left. Was a pretty good comp, good quality from what i heard my dad say about it. Only if he was still around I could go check it out for ya. ----- http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y170/Itachi-Kun/ac_stainedglass_1024.jpg
