Will be running a Dual core 6000+ on the appropriate Gigabyte or Asus board with either a 9800GT/GTX/GTX+ or HD4850. There will be a single 250Gb Sata and DVD-RW. All will be in a large aluminium tower with 6 case fans (all 80mm).

Input on this PSU appreciated (please stick to thread topic).

All of Zalman's power supplies are excellent in their respective categories. However I think you would be better off with something more modular like the Zalman ZM550-HP

Modular is good....I like modular :)

It's good for my use as I can just use what i need. The problem is the Zalman ZM500-HP (the 550HP not listed on the Zalman website) is not available through MSY, Umart, or Gamedude and these are the best priced places any where near me (Gold Coast).

Unfortunately I've had to adjust my upgrade somewhat due to losing my job to save managements arse. What I can't believe is that MSY don't carry the 4850, oh well.

Not a full review, but it seems to have fairly stable voltages at full load (no accounting for ripple & noise though).

The 6000+ draws around 120W, those graphics cards won't draw more than 120W themselves, and another 50Wish for the rest of the system. So factor in around a 300W draw. If you start overclocking those components it could be put up around the 400W mark though.

The Zalman should handle that, but it's not within the highest efficiency 40-60% load range.

Umart is the only place that stocks it, as MSY don't do Zalman and GD only has the higher end Zalman units.

What I'm getting sick of is find a descent PSU at a descent price and it doesn't have the 8 pin mobo connector (though in the case of the Zalman it has two 4 pin to use). As I have not made a definite decision on mobo yet (since having to change strategy - and yes I need to do it at the moment)PSU and mobo choice may come down to this plug.

Well if you're after PSU suggestions, check mohawk's PSU thread: http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=19&t=1587

Only units that have been properly reviewed make it on there, and only ones that are fairly commonly available in Aus.
