Few Quick questions regarding Fans and and E8600 temps.

Okay, so I got my new E8600 and 4870x2 last night and put them in the puter, problem is, my e8600 seems to be running rather hot, its on air, using a noctua nh-c12p HSF.

Is 40c idle too hot for that cpu and HSF?

According to the instructions that came with the HSF, the 120mm mounted fan needs to be blowing down into the HS, I'm not 100% sure which way its currently blowing though, the sticker is on the outside, and as all the fans I've seen have their sticker on the same side, I'm guessing its a universal thing to help people see which way its blowing, so if the sticker is facing outwards, which way does the air blow?

Cheers.

Dude that's boiling hot!
I've just stress testing my E8500 with a Hyper TX2 it's idling at 24c and 47c under load. I'd re-do that heat sink for sure!

Btw where are you getting your temps? I've been using Asus probe & coretemp.

coretemp.

I know its hot, which is why im trying to figure out whats wrong, but I reckon I have the fan the wrong way around, might try that now.

I just stressed it with OCCT and it didnt go over 48c, so not much of an increase in load temps anyway. idling at 35c now. and its 18c in my bedroom.

Oh man FFS why not hold your hand in front of the fan to see which way the air is going!! The sticker is there to provide the basic info on what voltage the fan runs on and to cover over the bearing. Turn it around and then tell us what your temps are.

Yeh I have, lol no need to get narky, its hard to tell because its a silent fan and doesnt have much airflow either way, but turning it around dropped the temps 5c now which is obviously the right way.

Thanks for the info Goonit, and Midnight_light, stay out of threads if you're gonna treat people like that. :)

No worries man, I still think it's a high idle temp.

Although I'm not sure what the ambient temp is here in Canberra, but when I did my tests last night it must have been around 10c or below, so that probably makes a huge difference to idle temps :P

Yeah Dasa mentioned to me it would have to be under 10c to get those kind of idle temps, thanks for the headsup dude.
