The sad thing is, $500 wouldn't cover anything in the way of performance upgrade for my PC. I bought well the last round of upgrade and in order to get something more it would need to be a while CPU/ motherboard/ RAM replacement.

Actually, what would be better than an 8800GTX these days for $500 or less?

One of my machines is an Athlon64 X2 4600+

So probably something like:

$119 Gigabyte GA-EG43M-S2H motherboard
$295 Q9300 CPU
$85 2x2GB DDR2-800 RAM

I think that'd run pretty nicely. That box also happily eats as much RAM as it can lay its hands on, so 6 (already have 2) GB will be plenty, I think.

Tempting!

I wouldn't spend it on my computer, I'd save it :)

Well the only thing I would consider upgrading would be my motherboard, PSU and video card. Considering $500 wouldn't get me a 4870X2, I'd either get a GTX280 or a stupidly expensive motherboard.

If I could spend it on a few items it would pretty much cover all three of the things I need, though.

My psw? I'm going to assume you mean PSU. My PSU is adequate.

A graphics upgrade may be the most beneficial to you.

The idea of upgrading graphics is monumentally stupid to me, though. :)

EVGA nForce 750i SLI FTW Motherboard $300.00 NZD
750watt Corsair TX PSU $174.50

474.50

Arrrgh!

Would then get another 8800GT for SLI with the other bits in my sig.
Would sell the 560watt Highpower PSU and the Gigabyte P965 DS3P v3.3

I got a Inno3d GTX 260 for $279 a week ago from IT Estate, along with the rest of my new system. I love it :)

I've never had anything high end, but for 279 bucks I couldn't resist! It just hammers anything I throw at it, with ease.

Actually, now that I think of it, I'd get a new 750w PSU rather than a new monitor.
