i rememeber the days a build like that would cost twice as much, can some one tell me what would be better performance 8800GT SLI or 4870 CF?

Latter.

Should be bloody obvious too.

I'm thinking of using an Asus PQ5-E instead of the Gb GA-EP45-DS4P
would this be the right choice? Or is there another board you can suggest?

Asus P5Q-E ExpGATE S775 P45 DDR2 FSB1600 3xPCIE RAID GBLAN 2x1394a ATX PreorderETA $204.

Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4P P45+ICH10R DDR2 1200 1600 MHz PCI-E 2.0 SATAII RAID GLAN 1394a 8Ch TPM ATX $193.00

Either of those boards should do you fine.

Note that the Asus one is listed as pre-order so you'll have to wait for it to arrive (if it hasn't yet.)

I would be getting a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 myself. Those fancy model boards have lots of cool looking features, none of which many people actually end up using.

As I always say, if you're on a budget, then save money where it doesn't really count (RAM, "pro"/"deluxe" versions of motherboards) and spend it where it does (CPU, Video cards).

And if you're going to spend $200 on a motherboard, something like a Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 is an excellent choice as it's a very good board and has 2 full-speed PCI-e 16x slots so you can add another video card later for crossfire goodness.

The P45 boards may be crossfire ready, but they only have one full-speed PCI-e 16x slot. The second slot is limited to 8x which isn't really waht you're after when doing crossfire.
