On my laptop, this morning as soon as I go to a link, I get the message ..

IE has encountered a problem and need to close..etc.
or
Firefox has encountered a problem and needs to close, etc.

I rebooted a few times (this usually fixes this sdort of glitch) but NO, not this time....

I uninstalled Firefox and in Regedit, removed all Mosilla references.
Then downloaded latest Firefox on my PC and copied to the laptop, installed it .....but the problem is still there.

I have Avast running and everything runs thru a router,
I must have picked up a nasty bug, but where to start to remove it

Anyone with a clue to help fix this prob.

thanks

Hmmm, Thunderbird email works fine
as does SBS News Robot

so it's not the Lan cable or router, or internt service

Google Earth starts to load then crashes

and IE and Firefox still crash.

Are you getting any other errors? Is it happening after short periods of use or long periods? I use Opera as primary browser, but when I was using Xp had a stick of ram corrupt on me and random errors kept cropping up. Is this just a recent thing? Have you tested your ram? How much ram does your system have? Have you scanned for presence of spyware causing possible file corruption?
