Which 4870X2?

Since the release of the 4870X2's a couple of manufacturers have thrown their hats into the ring including HIS, Sapphire, and Gigabyte.

I was wondering if there was any real difference between the cards currently on offer, and which card you would recommend.

Visiontek is the only one with a lifetime Warranty if that matters to you. I tell this to everyone that asks.. Other than them I'd go Powercolor or Asus for Warranty of 3 Years. or Next I'd Go Sapphire

or look for bundles.. at this point it doesn't matter. they are all the same card with a different sticker until later when people change coolers.

I figured i'd be voiding the warranty pretty quickly, so that's not a huge concern.

As for the bundles, from what I've seen none of the manufacturers are including anything of interest, so I guess I'll just go with what's cheap.

The difference probably really comes down to what bits are used, for example the brand of memory chips on each card. Apart from that not much difference. Factory clock speeds don't matter around here, as you're likely to thrash the thing close to breaking point anyway :)

the cards use the same qimonda gddr5 memory chips

Well if they're all sticking to the reference design and are using the same RAM I guess I can't really go far wrong...

I'd be looking at Powercolor when I buy one - hopefully they will have similar cooling to what's on my 3870X2 - it idles @ 38-39c, it's never hit 50c
at the moment, they're all much of a muchness, as far as I know.

Hmmm 4870 eh

I am looking at a 780G plus 2 4850's ($400-$440 for the pair)

Would I get better performance out of 2 4850's($440) or 1 512M 4870 (around $340)

two HD4850'sill be faster than one HD4870.

as said, if you have any further questions best start a new thread for yourself.

Except I discovered today that the Powercolour 4870 is clocked 50Mhz higher than other 4870 cards, but I don't know if this is the case with the X2 cards(but as I said you'll do that yourself anyway).

EDIT: For spelling

I can already do that with the 3870X2 hooked up to my 28" ViewSonic - the only game that slows it down is of course Crysis, which I see mainly as a benchmark anyway (UT3 is a better game....) but if I just play it without the DX10 tweak, it's tolerable at maxed settings (average 20-30fps)
but all my driving sims are bee-yoo-tee-ful, fully maxed at 1920x1200x32

yeah i think from experience be sure to know that not all ati cards come with crossfire bridge "i think" cause when i went to buy my two 3870x2's from HIS there was no bridge = = ... had to get them from ausmarket later...something like 22 dollars for a bridge...

i "borrowed" a pair of crossfire bridges from some cards that came thru work >:)

ill be going for a sapphire one me thinks, unless another brand releases one with a better stock cooler, in which case ill get it :)

as has been said tho, currently they are all the same, but some have a better bundle and/or warranty, so thats what should make the most differance in price.
