will be going in a 3200 clawhammer box, hdmi out would be nice but not necessary.
i dont need overkill either because i wont be gaming on it, the most intensive stuff will be watching 720p videos on a 50 inch plasma.
pci-e is fine, mobo has agp and pci-e.

also i have a radeon x1300 sitting here, would that be underpowerd for watching HD?

I've just pulled out my old fanless Gigabyte 8600GT last week (upgraded).

Not low profile, but heatpipe+full sized heatsink covers the whole board (still single slot though).

I'd have put it up for sale, but it would get next to nothing, so I'm thinking I'll just keep it.

Mobon,

+1 for the 3450.

I am running one with a DVI - HDMI adapter($12 experiment), with sound.
Good $45 spend and it gives me a reason to buy a bluray drive.

+2 for a HD3450, ATi cards are better at HD, and as far as HDMI and blu-ray decoding goes the HD3450 is equivelant to a HD4870

are the HD3450 strictly for HTPC's or would they do alright in a low budget comp, that will basically just be used for net, office and watching the occasional vid?

It would be perfect for that type of use, just don't expect to game on it at all :P
