Is it just me, or is this intended to passively cool your CPU? If so, would it be suitable for my 4400+ X2 rig?

EDIT: nope, still need another fan...

that, and it's the better part of a kilogram hanging a fair way off a wafer of silicon.

Are these things even safe to use? How about when you move your case around?

Well it can be a passive cooler, however it's recommended you mount a fan on to it, it comes with the clips to do so. Not sure if they'd still come with the right clip to be mounted on a 939 or AM2 board, though I know that with the eXtreme, they were selling it with the different clips so you could connect it to many platforms.

The design is what gives it it's edge, the thin metal fins allow the heat to be spread evenly and easily, and more importantly, because they are thin, the fan can blow the heat away with much ease.

So this is following the car world's Black eh? I wonder if they'll do a TRUE Black Edition where they'll remove all the unwanted bits and add in more cooling power...

I've had mine for a year at least now and dragging to to LANs has yet to cause a problem. The custom backing bracket is pretty good and the weight doesn't seem to be an issue, probably thanks to a good spreading of the weight.

It comes compatible with socket AM2, but 939er's require the retention kit!

I wonder if this Black edition has any improvements over the old one. or if it's simply just Black..

I'd like to think they did a better job getting the Bottom to more of a True surface thats flat. cuz so so many people had to Lap theres. I've been meaning to get one of these. cuz they are known to be better than my Tuniq Tower. and the 2-4C cooler could make a big difference for me.

and even though the black looks cool, I think the Silver just looks cool. It's a HUGE Shiny part in your computer. makes it look nice, and flashy, and expensive. oh and I've recently heard that the Coolermaster V8, or even better, the V12 is a slightly better cooler than the TRUE, beat it by 2.9 Degree's. C. they used a machine to test them all. Not sure about that though

and LMAO to what SceptreCore said. He'll try to insert his.. Um Thing into the water cooling holes that were pre drilled in your case. so keep him away! hehe

Nah he wouldn't even be able to satisfy the rubber plugs in the holes! :P

But still I wouldn't want him to try and insert his floppy and get a hard drive.

Just in reply to the question of whether the TRUE is a passive cooling solution, I would say NO.

The other day I got a BSOD, which is rare for my machine now, when I investigated the cause, found the UH120 heatsink was overheated, pretty much burning my fingers when touched.

Re powering up the PC I discovered my 2 120mm fans were not getting power, and therefore rendered my heatsink a passive cooler.

This was with an AMD 6400x2 not OC'd, with MB out of the case, on the bench.

Bugger, anyway it's not going to fit in my PC case anyway.
