Strange GPU temps??

Ok, short and sweet version.

The 1st Card 4870 = 48c idle
The 2nd card 4870 = 56c idle

Now card 1 is sitting ontop of card 2 which means its pulling hot air from card 2 which in theory means it should be hotter than card 2.

I have tried to instaled new TIM, used AS5 and AC-MX2 and the same results. ive reseated the cooler a thousand times.

WTF.

Does the second card seem to be pushing as much air?
I wonder if the fan controller is throtled back as the second card is under very little load at idle?

there are users reporting same issues even on a similar brand card. you can find some on tomshardware as well. have you tried the ATI fan fix?

could be related to those new coolers you got for the cards.

God

I found that when testing two 4870X2's together, the bottom card was running hotter.

I guess that it is because the top card radiates some heat towards the back of the bottom card's cores, and it adds to the total heat of the lower card. Only a guess though, nothing scientific.

Its really wierd, its only happend after i changed from AS5 to AC-MX2. now even after changing back to AS5 i still get the same wierd temp problem.

Although i cant really complain the temps are at least good and lower than the stock cooler. But you know, maybe it is the the fan on that specific card is running slower. It could at least explain whythis is happening!

Ok i plugged the fan directly into a Molex connector from the PSU and guess what temps are down

Top Card: 49c
Bottom Card: 40c

I cant believe after plugging the fans into the PSU instead of the motherboard it helped so much. Damn awesome if you ask me =)
Thankx Bolter01 your the man.

Glad I could help buddy, I'd been f*#king around with fans and temps a lot lately.,

I am quite happy to say I've got both cards @10c above ambient with full water blocks

damn nice temps there, ive always wanted to get into water cooling but i have no idea where to start. I guess i could call myself a pretty advanced user of aircooling i sort of know the ins and out. But im stumped when it comes to assembling a water cooling setup.

But at the moment my temps are:

Idle

CPU: 21c
NB: 35c
VGA01: 51
VGA02: 41

Load

CPU: 41c
NB: 41c
VGA01: 60
VGA02: i dont know about 50 i guess.

so i guess thats ok for the moment...
