Unless you plan to keep your current system for another 2 years after nehalem is released then chances are if you buy another intel cpu your going to buy nehalem or a derivative. Given the entry level price of nehalem at launch it should be reasonably affordable for plenty of people in a short time span.

Me, i'm waiting for the octocore version with simultaneous multithreading for 16 threads. But i'll see what amd can bring to the market too.

Im waiting to see what both camps bring out and if I can use my sli setup in it! Dont wanna part with my gfx cards at the moment so that would be a big determining factor for me.

But what does 1st/2nd quarter 09 offer when i should have more free time on my hands? Non of those above. I'll consider buying those once they are available, but i certainly don't see any reason to be waiting until then.

Well the 8 core Nehalem's I believe won't be out until the end of 09 when they shrink the die to 32nm. Codename Sandybridge.
