I thought this might make an interesting poll

waiting to see what amd comes up with deneb should be quiet interesting as nehalem and deneb will be on equal playing fields not to mention the surprise turn around by the graphics sector of amd, fingers crossed we will see a complete turn around by the cpu sector which will give the cpu market some tantilising price drops :)

Deneb and Bulldozer certainly do look interesting

If it's surprisingly cheap, or the motherboards are surprisingly good then might do. But will probably hold off until atleast the next generation of gpu's come out. Cpu bottlenecking isn't usually a problem for me, it's usually the single gpu trying to do ridiculous resolutions. I'm sure you guys will have the opposite problem with your 4870x2's :P

How low would the prices have to be for you guys to consider upgrading?

CPU's would have to be lower then the usual Intel $500 crap for me to even remotely consider swapping CPU's. Motherboards would have to be available for around the $200 mark

Nehalem prices will as ridiculous as a ridiculous person acting utterly ridiculously...

I expect that the new Phenom's will be more of a match to Core2, and I wanna get one... simply because they still do the job, and everyone else here goes for the Intels(not that that's wrong), and I want to see what deneb can do (someone has to).

Plus because Nehalem will be a lot better then deneb, it will drive the price down when it comes out, so I (will be the only one to do this)voted "I will use it to my advantage to buy a faster Phenom processor"

I'll camp until I see the prices drop to reasonable levels, see which chips have good OC'ing margins, and whether any issues exist between whichever mainboard I'll get in my next build.

Where's the "I get to play with one before everyone else" option? :P

And I'll definitely be grabbing a Nehalem chip, most likely on or about the launch. Plus a X58 board, some DDR3-1800 and Crossfire...and watercooling.

Better start saving up now :)

I also am eager to see what amd can pull out of the hat as call me a fanboi but when i had the 4200+ i swear everything just felt more solid and well built like the chip could handle more volts without dramatic increases in temperature and i never got any bsod's

I am not sure if anyone else can elaborate on this but i feel like i am going to break something with this intel stuff, fast as it is.

That's one thing I hate having switched over to the dark side for this round as an AMD user most of the time. Not only are the prices of intel equivalent high end motherboards damned expensive the chips are as well.

What kind of world is it where a company expects you to pay $500+ for a decent chip?

That would generally be a third of a decent system built to me normally

mmm, I too am looking forward to what AMD is going to be releasing. A mate of mine recently bought a 3 core phenom, and it runs very nicely. There is something about AMD chips. They seem slightly more stable than the Intel.

Thats a very subjective thing although.

Consideing I have a AMD socket 939 and socket 462/A system ... yeah, I'd getting one of these systems (when Intel push out the SLI versions).

You guys seen the latest news about nehalem? Apparently not so good for games, more for server type applications.

http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=15015&page=8

Admittedly the hexus benches were with incorrect/missing drivers, but still something to consider.

As for the OP, having just upgraded my system I'll be sticking with it for a while yet :)

The Nehalem ran at 2.93 compared to 3.2 of the QX9770. I'm sure once they're clock for clock the FPS should be the same. It did beat the QX6800.

Nehalem won't be THAT much faster than Core IMO. Wasn't the difference only 11%? I wouldn't spend a shitload of money for Nehalem for a while yet.

still it should be leaps and bounds ahead of Core2 considering it is a new architecture.

In one of the earlier reviews that was presented on the forums... initial testing was 40% performance increase over their Core2 respective counterpart.

This might actually level the playing field a bit... perhaps the new deneb arch will be better for games, and the more affordable gaming option!
