battlefield_gir thinks:

so now they call it " rumours" about nvida.

Talk about journalistic integrity.

About the Atomic article VIA quits motherboard chipset business

For Intel and AMD chips, anyway

What do you think?

VIA always made rather suspect chipsets anyway.

Kinda sad and ironic since it was nVidia that well and truly put the nails in the coffin.

But there was that brief period (like 2001-2003) where VIA was the ducks guts so far as Socket A chipsets goes.

AFTER WIDESPREAD rumours of Nvidia quitting the chipset business imminently, Via has announced it will also exit the once competitive motherboard chipset market.

This first paragraph is such full of stupidity.

It was The Inquirer (amongst others) who spread the rumours.

They say that Via will 'also' exit the market... 'also' ? They just said that the other company (nVidia) exiting the market was a rumour, so there is no 'also'!

Do we have immigrants writing for The Inquirer or something? If the likes of battlefield_gir - :) - can pick up irregularities in their journalism then I think they should start questioning the integrity of their articles.

Dude, the KT266A was where it was. (And as I found out, the "A" part of that was very important)

Yes the 'A' was very important. one of via's problems was bad marketing like that, the 266A should have carried a different name.

Hopefully now this will mean the complete integration of a new chipset and via's nano into one die/package. For a much lower power consumption than the existing two chip design. Could even come close to intel's atom's system total power consumption.

Where did AMD's k9 processor go? ....... I suspect it may be in a dim sim shop somewhere.

Yes. VIA's chipsets weren't my favourite either.

Ahhh, they weren't too bad, SIS were, and the ones that are still chugging away are the worst.

Hmm... less compeition in the chipset market.

Won't that lead to increased motherboard pricing?

i doubt it, intel chipsets are in most cases the best and most popular so why would prices go up if demand remains steady.

It might decrease prices since fewer makers will be churning out bigger batches, reaping better economies of scale.

Anyway, isn't Sis still going?

Although their chipsets are kind of like Parallel Import Nescafe.

All the Via chipsets I had were fine for general computing and gaming, not enthusiast orientated though.
