Probably the 5D Mk II, it's a 35mm body (lack of popup flash), and the way the prism container thingy tapers, it's not a 1Ds series, in fact the way the whole body is shaped, it'd definately a new 5D

Yes, that soft sheen on the plastic shows the prism shape perfectly. That and the whole evolution thing. They can't evolve an evolution in 12 months can they? They've taken, what, 4 years to replace the 5D?

I doubt that the magazine has either of the cameras, nor are comparing them. My guess is that they're trying to sell copies by having the name on the cover and including a spec sheet for each (NDAs, internet rumours, or otherwise).

In 4 years there really hasn't been any competition. Now that there is the potential for some (potential!), they're releasing something new.

Companies do walk the fine line between staying ahead of the competition and obsoleting products for the sake of obsolescence. The longer that a company can keep a particular product line active the more money they get back on their initial R&D and production line expenses.

Really can't wait to hear the specs on it :)

The amount of spec speculations are stunning, they're all over the place. Some say video, some say no video. Some say increased MP, some say not, and so-on. Arg! Not to mention mumblings of a second full frame body. Does the head in.

If Canon doesn't have video to compete with the D90, I'm gonna have to buy a D90 too! *Cries a little*

I was always wondering why the 450D was 12mp + 14 bit, when the 40D was only 10. then the 50D was announced, and that was made clear. So now the 50D has more resolution than the 5D, will the 5D MKII go higher than 15MP? And what will this do to the price of 1Ds MKII's? In all honesty I think the resolution in the 50D is a bit overkill, much the same as a full frame sensor is overkill if you don't have the lenses to back it up. I'm far more impressed with the price and performance of the D90, the images appear much smoother and equally sharp. And that 'kit' lens looks like a winner too.

Mademan: the 1Ds Mark III is ~21 mp right? It has the same resolution and density as my 30D, just over a larger sensor.

If the 5D comes in under 21 mp (I cant imagine it would go over the current top model...), it will be still a hell of a lot lower resolution and density than the 50D.

I've noticed on some newer cameras they give you the option of recording lower resolution in RAW, which I think is rather an excellent idea on extra high resolution cameras with a larger bit depth.
