Now that would make a nice upgrade to my 30D.

I wonder if Digic IV brings, 15 or 16 bit or greater ADC to the table?

Hoping now that Digic IV is out that will bring a new 5D out with it...

im waiting for this under samples..

So this is still a cropped sensor.

Looks like a few improvements over the 40D but I will probably wait till this is superceded before moving off my 40D.

All xxD are APS-C, you want the 5D or the possible 5D replacement for full frame.

Either never, or this year, now that Digic 4 is out, they'll have to put it in a Full Frame model, 1Ds is not due for replacement yet.

Athiril - While I would love to go up to a FF sensor one day, the price point these ones usually come in at works better for me generally.

My comment was more along the lines of, while there are some differences between the 50D and the 40D, as an owner of a 40D there is not enough to warrant a change just yet and I will most likely wait till the 50D is updated before considering.

Who knows though. I might have enough lenses that aren't designed for a cropped sensor body one day to change although to be honest, the 40D is producing some pictures that I am more than happy with.

The Tick: thats the same with me, but Ive managed to not buy any EF-S lenses, only full frame, including a lens thats ultra wide on my 30D (12-24mm, 120 degrees full frame..)

One day ill have full frame..

Yeah but then Canon do shit like this:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0808/08082604canonEF-S_18-200mm.asp

While not the greatest in regards to f-stop that range from a single lens is marvelous coupled with IS and you know this thing isn't going to be priced through the arse considering that the rumour is they will offer it as part of the 50D kit.

Still, once prices have come out and reviews come in as always I will be looking at a FF equivalent in all brands - oh how my wallet cries.

Expected October.

Wonder if this'll make Nikon push the D90. Though from what I've read, and considering the pricing, the 50D seems to be more Canon's competition to the D300 than anything else.

Also quite interesting to see Canon now stepping up into the 18-200mm arena. Whilst it might be coupled with the 50D, I can see it being of more interest to the 450D/1000D audience.

But all in all, I think this is a good time to say screw these two brands, Blad's are cheap as chips so lets all jump ship!

I never have quite understood the 18-200mm appeal. At all. The 28-300 canon L series at least has the image quality to go with it, but also has the size and weight to match. I thought it was laughable the 17-85 is still available as a kit lens, they could at least include the 17-55.

Certinly sounds very good, though I'm still skeptical. The Pentax K20D has about the same resolution, but in comparison to my 30D, the images are physically bigger, not necessarily better in terms of extra detail. If the 50D can shoot images cleaner than the 40D however, I may not be able to resist, but at higher ISO's, that could be asking too much.

When your in a situation (travel or perhaps out with the family) and all you really want is an all round lens (luggage constraints for example, weight concerns, don't want all your lenses as you probably aren't going to use them), having that kind of range on an all purpose is nice.
