Sony DCR-TRV16E, USB cable, Vista

Hello,

I have this camcorder, and vista, and a usb cable. My laptop does not have firewire. Apparantly I can not transfer video from this unless I use firewire, at least under Vista. From what I have been reading, but not tried(and am not in a position to), it was possible with XP. Both Firewire and USB transfer data, so why would this not be possible with USB? Is there any way I can do this?

I did some transfers with a TRV15 and with USB you could only get a low quality video. The sustained trasnfer rate for USB is not as high as firewire. Get a pcmcia firewire card for your laptop. They are cheap.

I am fine with low quality transfer.

What did you use to get it with USB? Which software?

I used the software that came with the camera, and I cannot remember the name of it now. Sold the camera long ago. Sorry I cant be of more help! It is possible though.
