I'm just wondering, what is the best free solution for having my own store on my website (php/mysql preferred as its a Linux box)

And... is there any real difference between having an open source online store and a paid for/subscription for online store software?

thanks guys

Support is the big difference I think between free and paid solutions. There is another thread on this already which should give you some info.

OScommerce is probably your best bet, but it's far from perfect.

Yeah I'd agree with that. It's about as good as you'll get for a store in Australia. It's the only free one I've seen that has a relatively-active aussie component developer base.
