Web Hosts

Hey guys. I know this has been asked before but would like some information on getting myself a domain. The main reason i want one is for emails so that when i change ISP's i dont have to worry about changing my emails on everything.

I dont want to host my own server so i then assume i will need something with webspace as well (which would be nice to host some pics for family)

So i am looking for a really cheap package that allows me to have my email addresses (multiple if i want) and maybe some space as i want to leave my emails on the server.

So what do you guys recommend? and would prefer to support a aussie company.

Thanks
Stephen

There are free US site hosts like Brinkster [1], Geocity[2] and others, or you could look at some Aussie free services that I can't think of off hat.

The only reason you would really pay for a web host is if you want an ad free site, and your own domain name. The free sites give you a domain that usually includes their business name.

The first places I'd look for pay-for hosting would be SmartyHost[3] and MD Web Hosting [4].

In the US, 2mHost - http://www.2mhost.com/index.html - good for .com sites

In Aus, Total Hosting - http://www.totalhosting.com.au/ - handy for .com.au sites

This was a good idea.

This was definitely a good idea.

There is no chance that this was not a good idea.

Hi, (new here)

I totally agree with Antraman, MD Webhosting should be avoided like the plague. After their fiasco I moved to Jumba and have no complaints so far.

Yup, why trust people who make stupid claims like that.

+1 to not trusting stupid promises

Although this thread is ancient, my recommendation is http://www.opticempire.com/

Service: 100%
Downtime: Only once, and was fixed promptly.
Value: High

I've been using it for 4 months with the cheapest plan, and I can't wrong it at all. Highly recommended.
