Cinema Displays

So a friend of mine is about to drop some cash on a new monitor, and wants to get a cine. realestate is important, but since thier rather pricey, hes looking into getting a 20". im suggesting a less cool 24" dell ultrasharp which is bigger and cheaper, but only doing so on what ive heard about them. ive worked on the apple cines a fair bit and think thier great displays, and was wondering if anyone has any hands on experience with both.

the apples have a 700:1CR and the Dell is 1000:1. Viewing angle is about 20degrees better on the cine, which is important.

This is for retouching, so colour and accuracy is important.

If he has to stretch to the 23" he will be would rather not.

realestate is important becuase hes running it out of a new mac mini, and to my knowledge cant run dual displays. if im wrong and he can, he'll just buy the 20" cine and run a CRT with it.

I have a Dell 24", a Cinema 23" and a Cinema 30"

Obviously the 30" is the ducks guts although it does produce a fair bit of heat compared to the 23" or the 24".

If he is looking for value for money go the 24" but for colour accuracy you can't beat the Cinema colour profiles.

Basically, plus one to plebs.

They aren't exactly economical, but if accurate colour reproduction is a must, they are fantastic.

i run 2 20 inch cinemas and love them, there exy, but worth it, do note however, you /CAN/ get cheaper better performance monitors that the cine, but they /do/ look nice.

The 2407 is a 6bit monitor which is around the $400 mark :|
Fail if he bought it :|
The cinemas aren't great either (I've heard many, many, many problems about light bleed, dead pixels, and bad backlights - then again it may have been a bad batch) , but most of them have nice colour production from what I've seen (not sure how they compare side to side to the 2408 or other 8bit 24's though).

You can't complain for $400

Really? The only complaint I've ever heard is the price. A big complaint, granted, but I haven't had a single dead pixel reported. Could have been a suss batch, or maybe they bought a refurb?

No idea.
I use them at Uni and they're fairly good, although for $800 I'd want an 8 bit display, not the 6bit 20" one =P~
I'm guessing it was a suss batch that triggered all the complains I heard, but yeah. The 8bit Dells are better value for money IMO (they don't look nearly as nice though QQ)
