Internet connection sharing Mac to PC?

So I set up a PC for my dad this week. Yeah I don't want to hear it Mac Fanbois, for the price I payed it will do a better job then a similarly priced imac, and will have 4 cores instead of 2.

Anyway, I basically want to set up a network, and internet share between the two. I thought it would be a fairly simple process, however it's not turning out that way so far.

I've got them both set up, one is 192.168.0.1, and one is set up on 192.168.0.2 typical class c network.

I can see the Mac fine from the PC when I connect to the IP Address... the Mac is on 192.168.0.2 however when I try to connect to the PC from the Mac I get nothing.

Windows firewall is turned off and both computers are in the "workgroup" workgroup what exactly am I doing wrong?

What version of the OS is the macintosh running?
I'm assuming windows sharing is on on the mac, if you can see it.

In the "Finder", click "Go>Connect to Server" or hit Command + K .
This brings up a dialog box. Type in "smb://192.168.0.1".
If the PC is sharing, and windows sharing is on on the macintosh If it's prior to 10.5 in terms of OS, then you'll get an authentication box.

TinBane he wants to share the interwebs not mount a drive which taht does IIRC (on XP atm so cant test).

EDIT: I may be way off but what did you put as the gateway? Connections bridged?

EDIT2: Better job then a mac eh? Yet the only reason your having this issue is cause of Windows :P You may find that sharing the webs on the Mac easier then going through the PC to use the webs.

Wait, so when he says he can't connect to the PC from the mac, he's talking about pinging the IP, or what?

Bit more info, please.

Is the PC hosting a website you are trying to access, or do you mean the internet is down on the mac?

UPDATE: I've got the network setup

As I said it's typical c class network with a workgroup. The Mac can now see all the shares on the PC and vice versa.

I'm still having problems sharing the dialup internet connection however even with connection sharing turned on, on the Mac.

FWIW it's running OS X 10.4

Really? You are having problems? It always just seems to work as you've described for me.

10.4.something later than 8?

Umm not to sure which variant. I've had it working on another mac of mine and that was way back when OS X had aqua for an interface between an Imac G3 (lampshade) and a PC

I'll nut it out, maybe I'm not sharing the right connection?

Alls I know is that the network is set up and both computers can see each other so that shouldn't be the issue

So I tried a few things today.

Firs things first the Mac is running 10.4.11 the PC is running windows XP.

Anyway I complete reconfigured everything from the ground up today, reconfigured the IP adress so that that Mac was 192.168.0.1, configured the PC so that it was 192.168.0.2 set up the workgroup again and all the shares, set up connection sharing using the Modem.

No dice the PC wouldn't even recognise it was there, I tried setting the gateway to 192.168.0.1 I tried setting up a proxy server. Nope nothing about the only thing I got was the apache server on the Mac...

So Websharing works but connection sharing does not hmmm...

Okay, I got a PC and a Mac computer, I have my modem connected into the Airport via Enthernet, which gives the wireless signal, then from the Airport I have another enthernet cable going into the PC, if you want to make any changes to the Airport, it has to be done threw the Mac, no changing to the Airport can be done on a PC.

My suggestion to you is, go spend $230 on a Airport Extreme and have wired for your PC and wireless for your Mac.

Windows ICS is terrible.

If you turn it on, it sets the pc's IP Address to 192.168.0.1 you must NOT change this setting or it won't work.

On the mac, you must turn on DHCP rather than a static mapped IP address, or at least if you are setting it manually, set the IP to 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 router 192.168.0.1 dns 192.168.0.1

Who would want to share a dialup connection with more than one computer? you think it's slow now, you just wait and see.
That is, if you're still reading this now...

Well I posted just in case someone comes along with the same problem, this is why we generally ask people how they fixed things themselves isn't it?
