I never had the same reception issues with 3G and my Sony Ericsson with where I live.

Which would've probably been able to utilize 900Mhz 3G

2100Mhz would be more susceptible to organic matter

Damn

Hang on a tic, which sony did you have? As far as I know, the only 3G 900/2100 phone optus is currently flogging is the nokia 6121?

I'd also be surprised if they're doing 900MHz 3G in your area Matt, their coverage maps have 2100 listed for virtually all metro areas.

Zeph - the K770i which does support 900 however, just checking the coverage maps from Optus and you are right, it is only 2100 in my area.

I just posted a whinge on apple's current forum discussion on this issue. It seems that the US is also having the same problems.

Optus are sending me a replacement SIM although I don't hold high hopes that it will change anything.

I have also just performed a restore via Itunes. This has downloaded version 2 again but most importantly, it also comes with a firmware update. My phone is now showing Version 2.0 (5A347) as opposed to (5A345) I think it was.

I'll see how this goes.

Hmm, the sony site says it only does GSM900, not UMTS900. So unless you were talking about worse 2G coverage, then that can't be it.

Or maybe I am just an idiot which is entirely possible.

I'll choose to blame the new baby combined with a toddler = lack of sleep

That could be the case.

I was in Moonee Ponds yesterday and couldn't make a call. The phone had full bars too. Not sure what that was all about.

I have my phone unlocked from Optarse and working on Telstra, although it doesn't like the telstra.iph APN, I think I may need to get some settings changed on my sim account.
