As title says. Nothing fancy needed, and no games. Battery life isn't really important. AFAIK Dell and Toshiba are alright, though I would lean toward Dell. I was thinking something like 1280x800 would be fine for the display.

What do you reckon?

Thanks.

EDIT: Please let me know if you need more information.

Keep an eye on http://www.ozbargain.com.au/store/dell and look out for bargains.

Like today, first 50 Vostro 1400's get 20% off if you use S0GQQ?3W?S8WMZ as the code. Unfortunately they've gone already.

But it would have gotten you what you wanted for $520 (instead of the usual $650).

I'm actually saving for something sub/portable notebook as well atm I'm torn between

http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1525?c=au&cs=audhs1&

and the eee 1000hd but leaning towards the eee 1000hd due to it being a little more portable but that dell is pretty darn nice for the price.

Be a nice upgrade from the Dell c400 I'm currently using lol

Mum has the 1525. Ended up a fair bit over the initial quoted price with all the upgrades needed to get it to a decent point. Extra Ram, better screen, better CPU, bigger battery, 802.11n wireless, etc, etc.

The 1000HD is better in that perspective with just a simple RAM upgrade you have a very decent XP machine. But i really do advise holding off for a little bit because ASUS will be dropping a few of their new EEE's this month, and very shortly after you will see MSI et al bringing out their new stuff.

Oh that ASUS N10 looks sweet but from this

http://news.softpedia.com/news/ASUS-Non-Eee-N10-Netbook-to-Debut-in-India-and-Australia-92998.sht

the $1,363.96 for a sub notebook is a bit steep and from that article I think that they are referring to the 3 cell version so with the bigger hard drive and grphx power...

Oh but a subnote book with HDMI and a better graphx chip...

I'm going to be in a constant period of waiting aren't I

lol
