... I can only recommend playing with a couple of each in stores close to you and seeing which feels better.

Dont have your pants arround your ankles when you do though. Apparently thats frowned upon. My opinion is, if they dont sign post it, then they cant be mad when it happens. The cops dont follow that line of thought though.

just spend about an hour in JB, and i stand by what i said, not only is the Acer1 cheaper, but its lots, lots nicer. Once more, the EEE 10 inch seems like a poxy toy.

Poxy? Toy?

The plastic casing is the only bit that feels toy like to me.

I found the HP to be a clunky metal turd.

Oh well, each to their own.

Enjoy your mininote.

HAHAHAHA, that is a thought.

Best let the user try it out.

I can see it now;

Vanne: Here baby, I got you a netbook for stuff and things.

Mrs Vanne: Hmm, it looks ok, but feels heavy and bulky.

Vanne: But it costs more than the sexy black one, and it has Vista!

Mrs Vanne: Yea, but I like xp, I also like sexy, in fact you have no xp and no sexy, I am leaving you!

Vanne: Wait... Did you just reference RTS's in your break-up speech?

Ex-Mrs Vanne: Ummm, I guess I did.

*lustful glances are passed*

*Lustful acts are committed*

Vanne: I am sorry I didn't get your opinion babe.

Re-Mrs Vanne: All good babe, lucky geek references make us both horny, let's go shop for some tech.

Bit late to the party with these netbooks, but I'm typing this on my acer aspire one which I've had for a week or so, and can whole-heartedly endorse so far. Here's why:

The keyboard is excellent. I can type almost as fast as I can on a full sized keyboard. I only tried a couple of others out (eeepcs) but this was easier to use.

The price - $489 after cashback for the XP, 120GB HDD, 1GB RAM model. Not too shabby, it was an impulse buy so I probably could have got it cheaper.

Build quality - every man and his dog will tell you that the build quality on acers are rubbish. Having never owned one before now, I can't really comment on acer in general. However, the aspire one is a very solid feeling machine. The screen hinges are chunky (in a good way), the keyboard response is up there with any laptop I've used, there are no gaps in the plastic and the whole thing just feels 'right'.

The Screen - no complaints with this, standard fare, 1024 x 600. It might be a tad glossy, it is a bit hard to see in full sunlight. Most other glossy screens also have this issue, I'm not too fussed about it.

The looks - I really like the look of this machine. I went with the blue, white was also available. The black bezel around the screen is very shiny and picks up fingerprints like crazy. Keep it clean though and it's quite an attractive computer.

The speed - Intel's Atom 1.6Ghz processor and 1GB ram run windows XP great, boot times are not too shabby & general use is not in the least bit frustrating. The largish 120GB HDD is great for a mobile pron collection.

3 USB ports, 2 Expansion ports (1 SD, 1 multi-card), VGA out, mic & speaker out give adequate peripheral support.

The cons of the Aspire One:

No bluetooth - other netbooks have this feature, I didn't need or want it so not a big issue for me.

The touchpad to be honest is a bit rubbish at first. The buttons are on the side as opposed to the bottom, but I've got used to it now and whilst it's still not great, I don't hate it more than other touchpads.

The battery life is only a bit more than 2 hours when playing a movie, about half of what some of the other netbooks were offering. Apparently there is a 6 cell battery available (you get a 3 cell one in the package) that should drasticly increase this. I'm traveling around the country in my car at the moment, so I just bought an adapter to keep it charged and as such have had no issues.

Other than that, I'm very happy with my purchase, especially considering it cost me less than what I usually spend on a new video card.
