The Dell XPS M1730

First thoughts; Farking huge.
This machine is a whopping 2 inches thick and 5kg in weight without the power brick.
That sucker is 1.5kg itself.

Second thoughts; Beautiful.
On opening the machine and starting it up, I discovered what a laptop should be, and that is, too heavy to sit on your lap.
This beauty has a terribly offensive amount of bling in its LEDs but I like the option of them and being able to set them up to flash with your music.

Final thought; Farking Huge!
It is still a giant beast and seems to be overkill for any user.

I plan to have a play with it tonight and see what comes of its massive graphics power, the ageia physx card and this 1920 * 1200 screen.

*swoons at beauty of machine*

A family friend bought a 17" Acer lappy ... looked nice but it had a crappy 8400GS card and it was slow too (running Vista).
I think XPS look quite good if a bit blingy.

truly an engineering marvel in efficiency, but I doubt it'd even pull 10000 in 3Dmark06.

I got just under 8900 in 3Dmark 06 that was with SLI on but without any OC'ing.

It truly is a thing of beauty.

Played a bit of Portal on it last night, was fantastically crisp.

It might with two 8800GTXs. The 2 8700s that Atomic reviewed got 8.5k-ish. O/C and you should get an even higher score (well high for a laptop).

I want to buy an angry scottsman. Imagine that:

My score in the post above yours was with 2 8800GTXMs in SLI.

I am not going to OC this as I don't want to run even the minor risk of killing this beautiful machine.

I have put the latest drivers dell have to offer on it. 174.31 (using XP)

And Mordain; It was ordered along with another 3 of them on Monday the 7th and showed up this monday just gone.

My whole team has them.

As it was a business purchase can't say how long retail delivery would be, but probably about the same.

Quite a few people over at NBR have pulled over 10k but All of them seem to be using the Extreme edition.

I have one of these beasts.

Solidly built fantastically fast but they have to be on a flat surface and plugged in at all time!

Dell delivery took about 2 weeks but thats cause they had a shortage
