Need a New Laptop (Yes Another Thread)

I wouldnt have posted another thread except my needs seem to differ from others here so.

Basically i attend uni, my days start at 9 and finish at 8. I live about 1.5 hrs away and have a lot of breaks inbetween uni that really annoy me. (cant be fixed).

Last semester was ok in taht it was 3 days and they where pretty packed so i was fine just keeping notes and stuff on my A6F laptop. However this semester i will be doing web development work(VB .Net from what i can tell) and C#.

The laptop i currently have weighs a tonne and as i catch the train and walk a bit. (Laptop weighs about 3.5kgs with charger) is chunky (15inch screen) and is 1.66ghz with 1GB RAM. I could upgrade RAM however XP is a little laggy as it is. It also runs verrry hot, like so hot it throttles itself sometimes. Battery life when using light to medium work is pretty crappy too about 2.3hrs.

So what i need is and i have no idea as to how beefy i need the laptop to be. To be able to not lag when running dreamweaver, webserver, Visual Studio. It needs awesome battery life about 4+hrs if possible small screen.

I have a 19inch monitor to hook it up to as well as kb and mouse when im staying in brissy so small screen would be awesome for when at university :). It doesnt need to be able to play games as i have a desktop computer for that :)

Basically something to make all the time i have at Uni not so wasted.

I was thinking about the IBM lenovo laptops? Or Dell XPS1330? Budget is about 2k.

I was looking at mac books too but they dont offer enough beef (in comparison) for me and which ever laptop i get will end up running OSX and Vista dual boot, just as my home system does. :)

3.5kgs isn't much.
You're not one of those weak nerdy types, are you?

Actually, RAM being so cheap, I'd upgrade to 2GB of RAM first and see how it goes. Lappies are only going to get cheaper and lighter over the next six months.

It looks like battery life and weight would be your main concern as even the cheapo dual core machines would run them fine with the RAM slots maxed out. As I said, the quads will be more affordable later in the year.

No not weak nerdy. Just walk around a fair bit, go to the city, cross campus. From the train station to Uni e.t.c

Current laptops pretty chunky.

Well, performance laptops tend to be chunky because you need the cooling to keep the components running. Small light laptops tend to use lower powered CPUs and ditch discrete video cards for integrated, and remove a few external ports to save space ... so the lappy can be smaller and lighter.

Well, there are plenty of cheapos out there offering cash back etc.
You just need to find the lightest one with the longest battery life.
