Hi guys,

I just got my Dell XPS 1530 Product Red edition!!!
And I have to say it is amazing :)

I am extremely glad I chose it over the rest of the competition.

I thought I should post this because I see alot of thread's wondering if the 1530 is good, well I can asure you that it is fantastic :)

Actually I have one question, vista ultimate came with the laptop but i am considering installing XP. I have heard that this can be very difficult?
Can someone please give me advice on this task. If anyone has a step by step guide they have found I would be very greatful if you could post it here.

Cheers
Mac

There is not reason Installing XP would be very difficult. It will be the same as install XP on every other laptop. You'll just need to source the drivers.

Here's a guide to installing XP on the 1530:

Though personally, I'd only bother with slipstreaming the SATA drivers, and install everything else by hand.

Grab the video card driver from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

Most of all, enjoy that little beastie :)

Laptop = Taking it to the office daily, its my bible!

Desktop = 80% work PC, 20% Other

I just thought i should let people now that if they are thinking of getting a Dell 1530 Windows XP is near impossible to install. I gave up and just kept vista.

Can i ask where you got up to with Installing Windows XP on this? The real difficult part will be sourcing the drivers for it, especially WORKING SATA and MoBo drivers. Those drivers are about the only thing stopping Windows XP from being installed.

Laptops being laptops, I'm sure there's some bizarre hardware not supported directly by the normal XP disc.

Finding the drivers was the easy part, you have to burn the drivers and xp to a disk and then boot from it. I kept getting a blue screen error when trying this.

The only driver you need to integrate into the disc should be the SATA driver.

I assume you're using nLite, and the copy of XP is with SP2 or SP3?

I like the 1530, it looks good.

I can't recall, but I think it worked out cheaper to spec a standard one to have the same stuff as the red edition.

Can I ask why you wanted to go back to XP instead of trying Vista Ultimate? I too just got a new laptop (Asus M51SN) and it has Vista Ultimate. I was looking at installing XP as I had heard Vista was a dog, but I decided to give it a go for a week. Well, I am very happy with it and can't think of a recent to go to XP. Maybe having Ultimate and a computer with decent specs helps, as I think that is why I am enjoying it. I am guessing that your 1530 will handle it fine, so I would give Vista a week trial and see what you think.

My 1530's specs are:
t9300
320gb HD
8600gt
4 gig ram

It play's games fairly well, i play tf2 on nearly full settings. Half life2 runs pretty well also. I haven't tried many games on it yet but its a great laptop and i love it :)

If you have any questions about the laptop feel free to ask me.

*Lordbug*: When i tried to install XP i was using the instructions on notebookreview.com, I dont know what service pak was on the disk. Its kind of old so i'd say sp2.

Cheers
Mac.

I installed XP on my mate's 1530 with no issues whatsoever.

Only needed the SATA driver.

I do like the performance of the XPS1530. Doesn't the XPS1530 come with a downgrade disc?
