iPhone Criticisms

Yeah the iPhone's screen would be awesome for showing zoomed-in price tags and such. Big screen is one of that machines big plusses. Of course, it's no big deal to download and view a PDA on the N95 either, nor is it a hassle to take and display photos for pricematch purposes.

I think we can agree that it's a matter of horses for courses. Photos of shirts (and shoes, and ties, and suits...) don't bore sisters who care about their little/big brother's appearance. They look at them, discuss with their friends and amongst themselves, call me and talk me through the right decision.

More importantly, if it's something I've been sent to get it's nice to confirm that it's the right (or wrong) thing before I put my money down.

COMMUNICATION!

Slow USB is somewhat of a hindrance from putting photos on the N95. But then again, it's no hassle to capture decent (for a phone) photos and VGA video to display on whatever TV happens to be nearby. If I could be bothered there's nothing stopping me from converting old home movies to that resolution/codec and carrying them around for the same purpose. Even when viewing them on the screen at least the sound will be much clearer.

COMMUNICATION!

Caps is fun.

I was being sarcastical, I was most surprised when my phone didn't crash.

no Nokia fanbois here... maybe TheSecret, but perhaps he's just really picky. I've happily used Nokias, Ericssons and SEs and I'm a fan of the iPhone. I just find the N95 8GB is better for me and anybody wanting to use the features it has which the iPhone inexplicably lacks.

The only pictures I take when shopping are one's of price tags used to price match in other stores, I do this by showing a salesperson the picture on the screen of my phone, no phone comes close to the iPhone for doing this.

I really think they wouldn't care too much about whether they were looking at a 3.5" screen, or a 2.8" screen to be perfectly honest.

But the iPhone has a delicious screen, no one is doubting that.

Nope, I hate Nokia. Siemens SL42 for me.

Communication that can be done with an iTouch , or a PSP, or a decent portable MP§/Video player, all better suited to the task than something which is meant to be primarily a phone.

ROFL!

Wanna tell me how an iPod touch is any better suited at the task than the device it is based on?
the iPod touch is an iPhone without the Phone functions or GPS.

TheSecret - ICIC :--]

Linux - I thought the iPhone was an iPod Touch with extra functions. Wikipediaing has corrected me. It just feels that way because .au got techno-shafted yet again in 2007.

I would still contend however, that the iPod Touch being a smaller, slimmer, cheaper and higher capacity (32 GB) player with greater battery life is better suited than the iPhone for those particular functions simply because it is more specialised.

Someone needs to recalibrate their sarcasm detector. How many ^_^s do I need to insert to let you know I'm smiling as I type and that I'm not serious?

So that's what it means.

I should have googled it on my iPhone first :P

I think you need help.

The phone functions perfectly well as a communication device.

I can make phone calls from it= COMMUNICATION!
I can send and receive emails from it = COMMUNICATION!
I can txt from it = COMMUNICATION!

Just accept the fact that lack of MMS does not mean it doesn't work as a phone and get on with your life. If you need MMS then awesome, all power to you! Buy another phone please so you can find something else to be angsty about.

Nope, I hate Nokia. Siemens SL42 for me

You have got to be kidding me. You mean this phone?
http://www.esato.com/phones/index.php/phone=40

I can't find any indications you were being sarcastic so I have to take it on face value that your serious which begs the question, if MMS is so important to you why are you listing a phone that doesn't/ couldn't possibly support it?

Give me thesorehead's Nokia N95 over that any day.

To be fair I don't "mind" the Nokia N95. The lack of push email support and lack of something decent in the way of a keyboard is what stopped me. I don't really get into Blackberries at all which left me looking at a Plam Treo but again, it didn't rock my world.

WTF that Siemens had to have been sarcastic.

The keypad is what sold the N95 for me - as I said I was looking for the E71 partly because of its keyboard, but was impressed with the keypad on the N95.

I've not used a local e-mail client for years now - I use that many machines and addresses all over the place it's easier to just use webmail for everything.

The iPod touch is a better DAP because it has more storage space, and it's sleeker and smaller, I don't contend that
But the iPod touch isn't a great communications device, why should it be anyway? it's an iPod!

Indeed!

An interesting app that my brother just showed me:

Also, if you want to know how GPS can assist with communication (via email) have a look at the apps which use the GPS to determine your position and bundle that with a google map reference into an email.

The iPhone sure sucks at communicating.

Because the iTouch was based on the iPhone, it took the best parts of the iPhone and made them into a device much more suited to them.

Whatis with everyone saying communication as COMMUNICATION!?

I am not saying it fails as a phone, but phones today are not just phones, they are multifunctional communication devices, which can do a lot more than just phone. While the iPhone can do a lot more than a lot of phones, it can not communicate in ways which have been very standard and basic in cheap phones for years.

Nope, I hate Nokia. Siemens SL42 for me

Not really sarcastic, I had a Sony-Ericson t68i for a long time and it recently broke, and I had my old SL42 which I fell in love with and am using again until I get the money to buy a new phone. I really did love it almost 10 years ago..programmable, mp3 player, wap..all before it was standard.., but I do need a slightly newer one soon. In fact, what would anyone recommend as a decent replacement for an SL42.., a kind of too the point phone but programmable and customizable...

They made a much more suited device by actually taking away the phone functions?

The iPod touch now allows you to browse the internet, read your email etc anywhere you are near WIFI - i.e anywhere you already have a computer anyway

Obvious troll is obvious

the iTouch is a very cool, portable internet and multimedia device, which does not try to be more than that.

The iPhone can do most of what the iTouch can do, and can still not do basic things other phones can do and have been able to do for years. The iTouch by itself is very cool. The iPhone with the functionality of the iTouch but not a basic phone...not so impressive.
