Where abouts do you live? Have you had a look at their coverage maps?

There are some people on 3 on these forums who rate them highly as they have not had a problem with their account or required service.

Most people who complain about them generally had an issue that required support.

Handset support can be handled by a 3 store (not a dealer). Phone support is in India and is generally next to useless if you have a problem that can't be resolved with one of the supplied phone scripts they have to follow.

It is interesting that while roaming charges are high, there was an announcement somewhere that 3 have secured a roaming agreement to Telstra's NextG network. I am not sure when this comes into effect though and I have no idea what the roaming charges will be.

I am also not sure if excess roaming charges are for calls or for data only. Maybe someone else can verify this.

didiPAnick- Pricing when roaming is the same on Three EXCPET for data. Data is charged above any data packs you have at $1.65/Mb (as this is the price telstra charges 3). All other call, SMS and planet 3 charges are the same.
Coverage for 3 is reasonablly good in inner suburb areas. Take a look at the coverage maps on their website to see if you are covered.

Excess charges are for Data only. All calls and whatnot are at standard rates.
As for the Roaming onto the NextG network, that is set to take place 3nd Quarter next year. However, MOST people will need to get a new phone which operates at NextG's stupid 850Mhz.
3 are yet to announce what their Roaming charges will be, however they have announced they will be much less and possibly even included within the standard data useage.

I've been using 3 for 6 years or so, and they're fine.

Like The Tick has mentioned however, I hate ringing their service help lines. They are lovely and always nice, even though the accents are a little thick, but they're pretty useless.

The only reason I stay is because of my 'First On Three' plan. No minimum spend; 15c per 30 second phone calls australia wide; 15c SMS worldwide; $32 Included Video Talk every month (regardless if you spend a cent on anything); Free calling to other 3 mobiles for 500 minutes; and only 40c per 30 secs to call Thailand mobiles etc, which comes in handy sometimes.

My dad got me a 3 phone and it seems ok.
It drops out sometimes but at least I'm not paying for it. (sort of)
