(My point was.. don't buy an iPhone: You'll be disapointed a month or two after you get one, and you'll be wishing you hadn't.

Funny,

I don't know anyone with an iPhone that would agree with that statement.

Must be fanboys.

I think I hear someone tripping over your bridge.

I actually know one person who ditched his for an LG Viewty. :P

EWW!

My girlfriend bought one of them, I freaking hate it.
I hate the style of touchscreen where you have to push it in, and you use a Stylus to do things, the web browser doesn't compare, youtube is superior on the iphone and now the App Support is brilliant.

She actually wants to get an iPhone now :P

Yeah, they don't have the same kind of aesthetics but hey they're trying.

What shat me was when she screwed it trying to install themes on it (you have to do it by hacking it) and I spent the whole day trying to get the phone to receive calls again...

Still better than a lot of other phones out there, but I've had my iphone for almost a year now and reckon it's the perfect phone for me.

Of course it won't be the right phone for everyone, but what is?

Fair enough. I don't like the iPhone because I prefer thin phones and have no need for the PDA like features. And I'm getting a Cowon D2 for music, so that should be awesome. :)

Thin?

The iPhone isn't THAT thick :P

I never notice it's in my pocket, but that's another thing I like about it - it's got an iPod app too, so it's 2 devices in one for me. I catch a lot of public transport so when I replaced my 4th Gen iPod and K800i it made things lighter and less bulky in my pockets.

Some people aren't attached to their iPods like I am, so it wouldn't matter to them but I like a good UI even for playing music.

Every post you make seems to make me lose another bit of respect for you.

I like my iPhone. I am not a fanboy.

Have you used one - I mean really used one for more than 2 seconds or are you going off specifications from websites and simply following the kool kids by joining in the throng of people bashing the device due to not liking the marketing machine of apple?

Anyway ...

As far as the blackberry vs windows mobile vs iPhone, as stated and backed up by those who actually have a brain, it should come down to present environment and user preference for his decision. Each of the obvious solutions have their place.

The last place I would have it is in my pocket - you are a braver (or crazier) man than I.

If I was going back to a phone again I would be looking at another nice small phone as opposed to a smart phone. I burnt myself too many times with O2s, Dopods/ HTC ... they all seem to like crashing.

Besides some issues with some web pages the iPhone has been pretty solid.

RSS feeds and the simple way of being able to view and read links in safari with the simple and gorgeous pinch scaling is amazing on this device.

As for the deficiencies with exchange, besides the two I have listed I can't seem to find much more that affects me in the real world. I know there are some listed in Apple's documentation but for day to day use it's not being able to send meeting invites and sending your contacts to someone via bluetooth or email that shits me.

heh

Dropped it plenty of times in the last year and it still soldiers on! I even ride my motorbike with it in my pocket

Stacked my motorbike once or twice with it in my pocket, <3 the fact that it's Aluminium and not plastic...

Things that shit me?

Push needs exchange or MobileME (and not IMAP IDLE)
No bluetooth OBEX or Bluetooth Sync
No business cards, no copy paste

things I used to hate but have been fixed with 2.0 include 802.1X EAP support, Multiple e-mail delete and now I don't need to enter a super long wifi key to configure devices thanks to the new config tool. impressed the boss when I told him he wouldn't need to type it all in (or get me to type it all in) :P

But you can, I thought of a way.

Using the screenshot capabilities you can make a .jpg which can be emailed, it's laid out in fairly clear fields and is exactly the same from iPhone to iPhone.

An OCR program for Symbian, Windows Mobile and MacOSX could provide a solution and an opportunity for an aspiring developer...

If you think about it, maybe someone could make something of this.

How do I contact the patent office...

..LOL!!!

Released under GPL.

Your right - technically that is possible but without the ability for the recipient to import it directly into their address book makes it somewhat redundant.

A great idea as a workaround though.

Nice. Stir up a bit of immature, pointless crap in an otherwise informative thread, then, brush it all off by convincing yourself that you're better than those who you were trying to get a rise out of in the first place, for your own kicks.

I haven't seen that before on the internet.....

I spent 12 hours at a hospital today with my wife, after the battery on my iPhone died, I switched back to my Motorola and Opera Mini.

After getting used to Safari on the iPhone, I must say that going back to the old way sucked dog's bollocks, totally.

After the battery on that died I WAS WITHOUT ANY INTERNET ACCESS AT ALL which was even worse...

I also found out that my iPhone doesn't work with my wife's SIM (Voda prepay).

Battery is definitely not the best on this device.

Between my car, home and work I am never really far from a power source to keep it topped up.

I have been looking at what is available as a battery extender in the event I find myself flying for business again.

I was speaking to a friend who is doing some app development and suggested a profile app which would enable you to select a preconfigured power mode. "Car" would be bluetooth on, wifi off, 3G on. "Work" could be 3G on/ off wifi on, bluetooth off (unless you have a headset of course). It could also be preset to allow the phone to, at say 30% battery disable wifi and bluetooth (and maybe 3G). Apparently those levels cannot be accessed via the SDK (or so I have been told).

Still, most days I find the battery is fine but I could see it easily being drained over heavy use.

Hill: your phone is a vodafone one right?

Sounds weird to me, the SIM locking in the iPhone is done by locking it to the Carriers MCN and MCC.

Does her SIM have 3G services activated?
