Lol, it doesn't take long to get the worlds tiniest violins out. Customers will tell you ANYTHING to get it fixed to. They'll swear blind and blue that it was broken in the box, or dented, or that when they woke up in the morning it was smashed, or whatever. They'll tell you it's a POS and just stopped working, and you open it up and it's full of sand and water.

GRR!

Here is a hint. If you have an iPhone, don't give it to a two year old to play with (i shit you not)!

This lady knew and was upfront about it, it only took her a couple of days to fall in love.

I'm about to DOA mine, there's a few dead pixels.

The Contour ones look nice.. probably the way I'll go. Maybe clear or black.

meh, shit happens no manufacturing process is 100% perfect, I haven't seen problems with the pixels on any other phone, it's a tiny thing but once I noticed it my eyes are always drawn to it.

Have had a couple that froze, bearing in mind we sold over 50 of them in two days, which is roughly equal to a weeks sales of all other handsets combined.

Before you buy the Contour case, have a look at the review in AU store.

This case would be perfect for me, if it had a belt clip. Having an iphone might help to..

WOW! Thanks lol

I might wait to see a few "in the flesh" before I purchase :D

But I'm PARANOID about dropping my phone. It seems SO slippery (maybe because it's so precious to me)... and I'm scared... but it feels like (when walking and holding with one hand) it's going to slip out. The old iPhone felt more secure when holding it in one hand.

Texting is a bit hard and takes time to get used to.

I've yet to take the plunge. I really want to, my dad gets back from Hong Kong in a weeks time. I want him to buy one there and bring it back to NZ, however I'm not going to go on a plan thus I need to know if it'll work out of the box with my prepaid on Vodafone NZ. I haven't heard any news of them talking of "unlocking" the phone like I've heard from people in Aus.

If he buys it outright from a vodafone shope, it should work...but you will still be locked into vodafone.

I have also heard some info that prepaid doesn't work for more than 30 days or something like that. So best bet is that you don't get one and speak to some1 in NZ about it (one of the telco's)

Ok the good the bad and the ugly according to my experience.

The phone itself is a beautiful piece of tech. Here is what I love about it so far.

* Browser in a mobile device is the best I have ever used.
* Cradle sync is seamless to OSX
* Touch screen including typing is a joy to use. Very simple to get used to over a blackberry and so much easier than a stylus
* Having IPOD sync on the phone is magnificent for podcasts, music, videos etc ...
* Installing Apps is a snap and its great to be able to do it on the phone as well as through itunes

What sucks about the iphone.

I am with Optus. The 3G coverage is hopeless jumping from 5 bars of reception to "no service" by moving the phone sometimes less than a meter. The worst is the phone does not seem to want to try and switch to GSM when this occurs. Last night, I took some screen shots when the phone reported no service then by standing in the same spot and activating flight mode then disabling it (turning the phone's signal off and on) when it came back up I got 4 bars of reception. A carrier issue or phone? I am thinking phone. I would post some screen shots but mobileme is not working properly (again) and I will get to mobileme further down. Optus do NOT want to acknowledge the problem exists.

Mobileme is STILL not working properly. So far I have had sporadic times where mail was unavailable. I still cannot use idisk properly as setting a password does not allow access to the public area. Every now and again I try and update photos to the photo gallery with iphoto and I am told the .mac services are configured incorrectly (when will Apple update everything to resemble mobileme and not .mac?). Mobileme is SLOW. Using this for the push services predominantly, I find it is SLOWER using wireless on an ADSL2+ gateway than through Optus when 3G works and even that is slower than using and Exchange account which is run off an ADSL connection.

Further to this, ical which uses a subscribed calendar to sync birthdays from address book does not sync this through Mobileme. I ended up turning off the push sync for calendars and now use it through the cradle. What a joke.

Last point on the phone, it does not allow you to send a contact to another phone. Not through bluetooth, not as an email attachment and obviously not through MMS as the phone doesn't support it. So while exchange support helps it enter the business arena, this omission really makes it kind of handicapped considering the functionality is built into pretty much every other phone that has been sold for at least the last 3 years.

I love the phone but these issues are leaving me somewhat disappointed and I would suggest unless your happy with them wait until they are fixed or apps have been released to get around the limitations. As for service, apparently Tesltra aren't having these issues. Sure they will ream you on price but at least you can make a call when you need to.

Oh - updates to ilife - lets see if this helps ...

edit - nope. Didn't help at all. Now idisk is down too.

My advice is to NOT get a mobileme account until their shit is sorted out.

edit 2-

Pics of reception with iphone before and after enabling/ disabling flight mode. BTW - I didn't sync these through iphoto, that still isn't working. I ended up going through the mobileme web portal.

I used one today.

I was...underwhelmed by some points. I can see why people like it, I mean, it's easy to use, and the screen is a joy.

But, there was lag. I mean, 3 seconds to load SMS's, noticible drop in framerate when switching from portrait to landscape.

I mean, these are tiny points, but what with all the rave-reviews about how fast it is, I didn't expect that!

Also, I find the UI...boring, I guess. I like the scrolling, and it's implemented well on the capacitive touch-screen, but the iPhone UI itself just seems boring to me.

*shrugs

A good, simple smartphone [oxymoron? :P], that will please most users. Not perfect though, and the hype actually sucked me in for a bit there!

I played with it the other day at a Vondafone shop, and I must say that it was love at first sight. I knew that i wasn't going to get one and didn't intend to, but the thing looks fantastic.

Comparing it to my viewty, they are similar, but the iPhone takes the cake when it comes to the camera. I like how mine has a 5mp camera and can record video.

From a business point of view, it has got some shit reviews, but from a normal users point of view, I think it would make a great toy, the fact that it costs so much and needs to be on one of the high end plans with a data plan is kinda of putting as i wouldn't really want to be locked into a $79 cap plan or something like that for 2 years.

I think if they were to release it on other carriers and sell an unlocked version, it would become more popular

I haven't had any reception issues on Vodafone, where I work has 2G, and as I walk out I can stay on the net through two open wireless networks with 2G in between then as I get outside it switches to 3.5G.

The transitions go fairly smoothly.

Opera Mini on my old phone used to not like the switch much, that improved between versions 3, 4 and 4.1.

My wireless connection at home is shit, that is due to the kid's being on School Holiday and running through 50GB of data in 2 weeks!

At 64k it's not too hot (DAMN YOU AUSTRALIAN SYSTEM, DAMN YOU TO HELL!).

Edit:-

I got one of these covers:-
