Which DVD burning/authoring software can I replace Nero with?

After 10+ years as a faithful Nero customer I'm finally grown weary of the bloatware, the non-standard MP4 codec, the confused UI, and the useless-and-resource-hungry-but-you-cant-disable-it Nero Media Indexing Service.

I'm looking for a good alternative burning/authoring package.

Any suggestions or pointers...?

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Imgburn, as many here will attest, is pretty much all you'll need for burning files and images to disks.

+1 Imgburn.

It's looked after by the stripey horse, so you know it's good.

Actually you can, at least in Nero 7.
Launch nero Scout and untick the "enable nero Scout" box top left. Apply and close.

Tried nero 8 briefly but found it even worse than 7.

However as maxx said for general file and folder burning, plus Image burning nothing beats Lightning UK!'s IMGBurn.

For Audio Cds have a look at burrrn, but I still use Nero vision for making DVDs.

I have gone to ashampoo free burning studio, it does everything you want in a small package, with a simple to use interface.

While imgburn is good I liked this much better.

+1 ImgBurn.

If you need to burn DVDs from movie files, use DVDFab to amke an ISO then imgburn that.

About the only other program worth mention is DeepBurner, as its portable if need be.
