500GB External on Desk, Near Subwoofer..

OK, so I recently bought a second Samsung 22" LCD, so i had to re arrange the desk a little and get everything changed the way i wanted and liked it.

So, I re arranged, and I put my Bose Sub Box on my desk instead of on the carpet in the corner. It's sitting next to my external HD. but the Sub has a port on the back that blows into the wall for that Vibration Rattle effect. So it's not actually hitting or touching the External. I was hoping everyone would give me there input on this. Is it a bad idea. Am I just asking for a Failure. Or is it ok. after all they are made to Spin anyways. lol. I have blasted some music and the External HD doesn't seem to be rattling or anything. So i think it's ok. But I wanna hear your inputs guys.

Here's a picture. on the left is the Sub and External HD.
What ya think?

Well generally speaking extra vibration for a HDD is not a good thing. But looking at the pic, why not just put the drive on the other side of the table, or behind your monitors.

Well the other side doesn't have any room. unless I put it behind the monitors. I guess I could put it behind them. I just like it right there, I can see the Glowing light thats on the outside of it. It lights up when turned on. Just easy to use. but I guess I could move it to the other side of the lamp to be safe.

Is there any reason the subwoofer needs to be on the desk top?

Good point, I keep mine under the desk with other 5.1 speakers on the desk. Could be just the way the desk is, making cabling behind the desk a pain.

K i left it on the desktop, but it's not about 3 feet from the Sub behind my monitors.

Subs should be on the floor, prefferably in the corner for loading or whatever. I forget all the audio terms.

Vibration from a sub shouldn't hurt a hard drive, they seem fairly hardy these days. If you're that worried, rest it on a piece of foam or something.

ya i think it will be ok, and it originally was on the floor. but I just didn't like it there. It was also in a corner. sounded great though.

I'm not that worried. just dont wanna give it more chances to crash thats all.

ya very true.. My sub is more for good sound than for shaking the house. but it does both. pretty good, and load. so I'm ok.

Thanks fir the thoughts though

Have you ever pulled the magnet out of a hdd? They are about 10 times as powerful as a sub magnet so i really dont think you need to worry about the sub damaging the hdd in that way.
