Now that the P35 Mars is MIA, im considering one of the above.

Budget and head is telling me go the DS4P but my heart says go the DQ6 or the Extreme.

Basically im looking for an excuse to get the ep45-extreme, but keep in mind im a o/clocking lightweight....

the P45 boards don't have 2 full 16x graphics, the 2nd slot defaults to 8x, so, if you intend getting 2x graphics cards, get the x38.
I take it that you have your heart set on a Gigabyte board?
shrugs.....big step down from the Mars.

The EP45-EXTREME is extreme in name only.

If you look at the specs, for the extra price premium, it really is pretty pathetic, and it comes with the EXTRMEEly unacceptable lack of a second full-speed 16x PCI-e slot.

The EX48-DS4 will almost certianly do you just fine, otherwise go for the EX48-DQ6 if the DS4 lacks something you need, which it almost certainly won't.

P45 is king of overclocking. So unless your pushing over 440FSB on a Quad, it's an X38 for dual cards. Otherwise P45 shits on the X38 for overclocking.

I don't ahve first hand experience wit hthe two chipsets so can't verify if this is true or not, but that's a fair thing to point out all the same.

If you're not going to go Crossfire, then just get a GA-EP45-DSwhatever board.

I'd recommend the DS3 or possibly the DS3R. I really doubt the other "fully-featured" boards are going to have anything (that you'll actually use) that the DS3(R) doesn't.

Just don't get the -EXTREME :)

I've had a X38, and a P45 (P5E, and P5Q) with the exact same hardware - the only difference as far as I'm concerned is the 16x graphics slots - they both seem to perform the same, I actually went from the P5E to the P5Q owing to problems with the ICHR9 chip on the P5E. they both are good boards, I only wish the P45 had two full 16x slots, then it would be perfect.

I've only had the Gigabyte P35 and my wish is two full 16x slots.

had one of them too, a P35-DS3
all I need now is to get an X48....and....that'd be a full house?
