I want to get either one of these boards when probate is cleared, depending on DDR3 prices in the next 6 weeks/2 months - tell me, how good/bad is it?
I'm over Asus, and Gigabyte - there's usually something that disappoints me with them.
gawd, but the DFI X48's read well - are they all that they're cracked up to be? my last DFI board was the nF3....nice board, shitty CPU....

thanks - I was beginning to wonder if anyone had one of these mothers! the Thermalright cooling sure looks the biz too - the color scheme has me scratching my head, but that's of no real concern, a couple of graphics cards, a Thermalright cooler (may as well keep it all Thermalright - right?) and you wouldn't see much of the green anyhoo.
basically I just wanted to hear that they're not buggy like some X38/X48 boards out there - my P5E was a disappointment.
now, I just have to wait for the money to clear (fucking probate), which should be anytime after the end of the month.

I'm very happy with my 4-day old T3RS - running 4gb DDR3-1866 on it, but if I link it then really it only goes to 1600 (oh noes!).

It's a hell of a lot better than my old 790i ultra that's for sure.

In terms of the UT vs. LT board - the UT heatsink is a bit of a pain in the ass in hindsight I think I would have gotten the LT version and watercooled it or something.

Anyway, that's my 2c

why is the heatsink a pain in the arse? Thermalright coolers are notoriously great....is it too big, or something? can you fit a Thermalright Ultra 120 with it installed?

I am referring to the heatsink that is attached to the rear of the motherboard after you install it into the case it's just a bit fiddly and quite easy to accidentally stick a srewdriver into another heatsink.

See - the board has:
A main heatpipe setup that covers southbridge, northbridge and just behind the new digital PWMs. This has two heatsinks. One is over the northbridge, which is very easy to detach and swap for something that you prefer ie. waterblock or thermalright hr-05 (this modularity is quite nice - they also, unlike a lot of recent companies, don't throw a bunch of different crappy options into the box so that you don't have to pay for them). The other is over the area behind the PWMs. The final heatsink comes not-attached, and must be attached perrsonally. This attaches to the second heatsink I mentioned, and really the difficulty of attaching this heatsink is related to which case you have. My case has back case fans plural, which increased the "fiddly" factor. This extra heatsink, however, is optional.

It's not a massive problem though, just saying that if I were to do it again I would get the LT version (saving about $60) and put on either an HR-05 or a waterblock on the middle. As it stands I might end up watercooling it anyway.

Hope that helps

thanks for that. yeh, I figured that that would be fiddly to attach, but, I don't want to go H2O (again!), so the Thermalright cooler(s) sound perfect for my needs - I'll probably get a LianLi full tower to house the muvva in, so the case having ample room shouldn't be a problem - I prefer the color-scheme of the LT, but, that's not going to sway me.....I'm sure the green will grow on me (kinda like a high-tech fungus, I expect)
it's good knowing that I will have the cash, and having this time to decide on the pieces to whack together - I'm aiming for maximum overkill, as it'll be quite some time before I get the opportunity to replace it - graphics cards present me with a dilemma - the 4870X2's run so hot, I hope someone brings out a decent cooler for them,I wanna run 2x of the fuckers! the Powercolor 3870X2 has a great cooler, dirty great heatpipes etc it's really quiet, and has it idling at 39c, 59c under load! sounds better than 65c idle/85c+ under load! something akin to that would be perfect!
thanks again.

WARNING! This board has compatibility issues with the 4870X2 so if you are planning on combining them I would recommend that you choose a different board.

Ps. just got burned :(
